Is there a way to purposely get lower dungeons in roulette?

I am so bad at tanking but I want to practice while earning XP. I am comfortable with dungeons up until Stormblood, after that I don't know the fights too well and I have issues memorizing things nowadays.

If there isn't, what content would you suggest for me? My Gunbreaker is level 84. Should I stick to Fates?

You're a tank just select lower dungeons and you will get into them instantly. When ready go into the roulette.

Yes, you can unequip gear to lower your ilvl.
However, Tanking in dungeons hasn't changed much if at all since Stormblood. Every dungeon since then has had a standard format of two sets of two-pack pulls before each boss, and the bosses themselves don't pose much of a threat to a tank so long as you mitigate the tank buster.

Item level determines what you get. The game snapshots the armor you wear when you queue. It's how people get crystal tower raids when they do Alliance roulette. It's fairly frowned apon, but if your intent is to practice with real people that might be your only option outside of trusts or just outright queuing for lower content.

Just queue into specific dungeons you are comfortable running. I would advice against lowering your ilv for roulettes. Also just a small tip. Please use Arms length for trash pulls. It inflicts slow on every mob that strikes you.

You're smart enough to understand how degearing to get easier duties in roulettes is cheating the point of the roulette which is to fill in various queues, but please, go on.

Thats why you follow the questlines of them first! They have a instanced duty designed to teach you the mechanics of the class.

(tbh, i would prefer it if the class wouldnt be usable in dungeons before they at least finished that quest, just to promote people to learn the basics that way)

And also, after that duty, you should have enough information to start doing some duties with them. They are often not too complex at lvl 70.

You can easily run through those starting questlines without learning anything.

Just take the time to read through your abilities, and sort everything out in a similar way to the classes you already play that are in the same group.

Trusts have been put in for a lot of the lower level dungeons up to a certain point and you can use them if you're nervous about playing with others. You could use trusts in ShB and EW as well.

The combat from your party won't be exactly the same, but the bosses will be doing the same attacks and it will allow you to memorize fights since the NPCs always know where to go.

Higher level dungeons are much easier to tank than lower level ones because of the powerful skills you unlock on higher levels.
