So likely the removal took the group off-guard and interrupted any progress they were making. If there are boundaries that cannot be crossed, the rules should be set in advance with the group IMO.

Yes it's great to have values you follow, but they shouldn't be arbitrary or hidden when the time of 7 other people comes into consideration.
That's a good point and something they should take away from it going forward. I also mentioned as such in my reply no?
