So what your saying is.. wait till Plumes stop completely before AOE them?If you're using the BRD/BLM setup, your offtank and both BRDs should have plumes as their top priority. It may be a bit difficult now with weaker Steel Cyclone (I don't know, haven't tried since class adjustments) but I'm sure it's definitely still doable.
BRDs should have a solid WS rotation to have AoEs go off a second or 2 after she summons the plumes, or right when a bunch gather on one pillar. (As a BRD I usually do all 3 WS directly on Garuda, with the AoE going off a second after she jumps into the air, followed by picking the rest of the plumes off 1 by 1 with single target WS combos or, if I have enough tp, Rain of Death on a group of them)
OT WAR should start their Steel Cyclone combo on Garuda herself right before she flies into the air but save Steel Cyclone itself for when the plumes gather on one pillar, then help with picking the rest off with the BRDs.
MT WAR should be timing Steel Cyclone to go off right when she jumps into the air (before the BRD).
Doesn't matter if you get them when they first pop or when they're grouped together on a pillar (I'd recommend doing both), as long as AoEs are killing more than just 1 or 2 of them at once.
Edit: One last piece of advice before I head out. The pillar where your BRDs and Mages stand behind is the most important one to protect. You will take AoE damage if the plumes break it and everyone will lose SS, which can be difficult to recast before AF. (No SS on AF even after killing 90% of the plumes can easily wipe your party if you're not prepared.)

New DoH: Stonemason
Now required for Garuda fight.
Well one thing that has changed is that steel cyclone doesn't kill Plumes in one hit any longer during the first phase, the ones in second phase have less hp.
Rain of Death
Doomspike
Whirlwind
Ring of Thorns
They all do. The fight was easier back before Steel Cyclone and Collusion were nerfed. It is more work for the bards now definitely, and I find it helpful to have a dragoon in the party. But if you can avoid a third jump and people take care of their adds the AF is nothing to worry about even if you leave one pillar unattended for 2/3 plume spawns due to timers on single hit AOE weaponskills.
ah you beat me to it zyph.
shouldent armorer or blacksmith be able to repair stone pillars in a realistic term?

Tell your BRDs to gear up properly (or stop sucking), if they have not been 1shotting plumes with rain of death, it means they need better gear and no that doesn't mean Darklight gears.
Also bring a DRG, WAR isn't really optimal imo these days for Garuda.
Post patch, we always go with PLD DRG MNK BLM 2BRD 2WHM(or replace 1WHM with a BLM), never really have issue, if you decide to bring 2 WHM, assign 1 WHM to help on nuking Chirada when it pops in case you have terrible MNK that miss combos bc direction can get messy during that time.

Right, if you can't DPS Garuda and the plumes quick enough, there are issues with your BRDs and melees. I also haven't had much meaningful practice on her post-patch for reasons beyond my control.
I'll even say from experience that you can take down all the plumes each time they are summoned, but if the actual DPS on Garuda isn't big enough, she'll just take down the pillars herself with her Mistral Shriek and Song before she even decides to Aerial Blast... Or has this changed after the patch?
The biggest problems that plague parties pre-Aerial Blast seem to be overzealous DDs getting hit with attacks that are quite avoidable, those who are in charge of taking out plumes are not efficient at it, and DPS in general sucks because people are undergeared and/or 5/5 in AF. Some people need to realize that this isn't like Ifrit where you can auto-pilot it just because you got her behaviors memorized/figured out.
Because mending stone and mending flesh share the exact same mechanics...
