If player UI/HUD is saved client-side, why do HUD elements reset?

This would be much less bothersome prior to the introduction of job gauges.

Now, if you happen to not swap to a job in something like a month (because you may be leveling other jobs, or working other content, Savage, new expansion, etc), that job's gauge gets reset to default. Especially frustrating if you've got them changed to simple mode and sized down.

Also happens in Eureka and Bozja, if you ever happen to want to hop back into those for some reason after a long break.

Possible also deep dungeons? Dunno, haven't ever really needed to play with UI there much.

Point is, if these settings are saved somewhere on my end, why and how do they get set to default without me telling them anything?

Huh, I wondered why my SCH and AST job gauges reverted back to default.
Everything else is fine though, just the job gauges.

Maybe hotbars are somehow flagged to be set in stone, reverting those would be mildly catastrophic. Most other HUD elements get used/called often enough to keep from reverting, I expect.

Or maybe it's simply poor coding on the job gauges, which is shared by the special Eureka/Bozja HUD elements.

Maybe I should run a squadron dungeon again, see if that squadron command menu gets reset. Coulda sworn there was something else I'm forgetting that is also similarly affected..

Admittedly, it's mostly the job gauges that I find most infuriating, being one that sets them all to Simplified.

I've been wondering about this for a while. I can't seem to find an answer.

I get the sneaking suspicion that any time anything is changed too much in the backend they have to reset some elements, to make sure the new copy is pointed at the right thing, and this puts them back to a default location (where they would be as a minimum resolution version of the game, against the right edge).

In my experience, job gauges are by far the most common UI element to randomly reset to their default position/display mode. I've also noticed it happen with the item selection window for quest turn-ins, as well as the Eureka/Bozja duty UIs, albeit rarely.

The one workaround I found for this issue is to keep a copy of the currently active HUD layout as a backup. Whenever the UI elements reset, they only reset in the active layout, so restoring them to their modified position/display mode is as simple as copying the backup HUD layout into the active layout (e.g. copy layout 4 into layout 1).

If the issue is that after a long break from the game or such and you are using a Windows PC, then very likely it's caused by Disk Cleanup settings or by the user freeing up space by deleting old, unused files.
The configuration file(s) location on a default Windows install is C drive > Users> {Your PC User Name}> Documents> My Games> FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn

SCH gets a new egi glamour quest, let's get that knocked out.

Oh. Haven't swapped to SCH in a while, faerie gauge reverted to being enormous and in the way again.

Really seems like there should be no reason for this.

Happens to me as well, super weird and buggy feeling. No idea why things reset like that.

Of note, it happens to certain PvP UI elements after a time too. Always fun to load into Crystalline Conflict after a break from it and find my team and enemy bars have jumped around back to the default as the match start timer is ticking down.
