    Cannot cast spells while moving.

    I have never formally voiced a complaint about anything in this game. But, I sincerely can't stand the "You cannot cast spells while moving" thing.
    It really, really bothers me. And yet I can cast a spell while not holding a weapon? But I can't cast while moving? .... What?

    I wish I had a more effective way of expressing my discontent with this. It is not something that I can adjust to although I have tried. Quite frankly, it takes away from the gaming experience.

    Please abolish this incredibly annoying affect!

    It was done because of PVP whiners, and before pvp is even out yet...

    No excuse in the world is good enough to explain why casting while moving is not allowed.

    When you do the same spell over and over again it should become faster and less concentration because it's becoming second nature. Which is often why you see stupid little wand wielding mages become bare hands casting spell wizards that can walk talk abd cast spells all at once.

    I have to agree it's not something that I like, but I have adjusted. Maybe change to lower levels, but a level 50 con/whm or thrm/blm should be able to move. Ifrit proves it with the delay in the explosions from the cracks after clearly clearing them. SE has yet to address this. So not being able to cast spells while moving is a annoying!

    I also miss the old days but, this just requires a different play style.
    The only thing that this really effected was Darkhold, no more dashing through while casting cures/sleeps and stoneskins.

    I can see how its for balance purposes. May break some bosses if you could cast + move, in other words, kiting while maintaining heals/dps. SE *may* be able to strike a balance some certain skills have a cast time and others are instant (and please no animation lock -.-*)

    It could have been done differently. I could give two examples.

    1. Increase mob movement speed, and increase the damage more when taking damage from behind.

    or

    2. While casting reduce run speed of caster to walking. Make sleep/root spells line of sight only. The current enfeeble system is good for PVP play, but of course terrible for PvE. Needs to be switched back, and while in PVP the current system should take charge in it's own area only.

    1. Can the server correctly keep track of when a player moves from casting?

    If not, can it be handled by the client? Spell starts. 65% of the way through, the player moves. '65% still cast' can be given to the server, as can the effects, given that 65% or whatever it may be, if there was a difference.

    2. Are effects calculated before casting begins or after casting finishes?

    If the latter, then why not just make it so that effect is increased based on the percentage of time you were still / unmoving? So, in the above example a 65% still cast would do something like (100-(35/2))% effect. Half effect price might be a bit steep for moving, but it's just an example.

    3. Can this theoretically be done starting from moving, going into unmoving (can start casts without stopping / being forced into a stop)?

    Forget about any optimization with our current engine.

    Most people will have about 1+ second delay before the server finally accepts you stopped/started moving, which is a matter of life and death in many situations.

    Ifrit is a good example: A cura cast is 5 seconds long, if you start running on the 3rd second, the spell will likely not be cancelled, because the server gets the interrupt signal too late -> you get BBQd.

    People warned against implementing this system with our current engine, knowing this would end up a major disaster.
    Now it's a major stress factor in playing any mage-type job. If YoshiP cares so much about reducing player stress, why was this added?

    Especially with him saying they expect only about 15% of players joining PvP and not wanting to concentrate on it too much, a separate ruleset for PvP would make more sense, if that was the motivation.

    Try kiting any boss while keeping your distance. You will still get hit occasionally because of the retarded position calculation code of crystal tools.

    tl;dr:

    - separate ruleset for PvP, implementation in 2.0
    - PvE not crippled in the name of PvP
