Summoner Job and suggestions for Summonable Avatars

A topic that has sprung up various times on the forums; I’m sure, and I know I’m just adding to the pile of Summoner threads, but I feel it important to bring awareness to this job/class. I’ve read Yoshi’s ideas behind Summoners and kept tabs on related threads that have cropped up. I understand that Yoshi sees the primals as gods, and wants them to be special and unique so that the world isn’t plagued with clones of Ifrits or Garudas running around. I understand that only a whole free company will be able to summon these primals, and once summoned, those interested will have to fight the primal again and get the “rare drop item” to summon them again. That you will have a limited amount of time to summon them and can’t hold them forever, etc, etc, etc. And that’s all fine and dandy, but I don’t know…

I’m sure many of you will agree that if they were to add a Summoner job or class, you’d want to be able to summon those traditional primals to use in your adventures. I’ve had a hard time settling with this idea because I believe part of the Summoner’s identity is the ability to summon said primals. Perhaps I’m being a traditionalist, or just being old fashioned. But I really think Summoners should be able to summon Ifrit, Shiva, and the like. So, instead of trying to change what seems to be already the direction Summoner is going; perhaps coming up with ideas to work with that system but still have our primals, can still bring forth the possibility of having primals as our summonable companions. Like for example, maybe our “lesser summons” can still be Ifrit, Shiva, etc. But look different. Perhaps like a ghostly spirit representation of the Primal. Which can symbolize a lesser version of itself. Something smaller, transparent, and takes the form of the primal so that it’s obviously the primal, but in a spirit form. That way, it’ll still feel like you can summon the primals (in a way), but not really “summon the primals”. Just more their essence.

I’m sure there are many people out there just like me, who are looking forward to a Summoner job and wish they could summon those traditional primals in some way. What do you guys think ? Would you rather see Yoshi’s idea for Summoner ? Or would you too like to be able to summon the more traditional primals in some way? Please share your ideas, as I’m curious of alternate methods to this issue or even radically different ideas.

Yeah I would also like to summon the Primals. One of the summons I always wanted to have in XI was Bahamut. I do not want to summon a magical blue squirrel. One of things I enjoyed in XI was besting the Primals to be able to summon them in battle. It would be nice to at least be able to summon 1 of the Big guys such as Garuda or Ifrit after meeting certain requirements. You can then switch to the one you want by equipping something similar to the job souls and have access to that avatars move set.

With that said I agree completelly. Summoners arent summoners without the primals.

I agree with Shadow, Why change the way you summon the primals? Why do we have to break an arm and a leg just to get the primal? Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts. So saying that I feel that we all should show our strong feelings and opinions towards the summoner's primals!

They've said in the past summoners will summon primals just not the ones we currently are fighting. The current primals can be summoned by player companies in the future, not the summoner job/class itself. There are plenty of primals in final fantasy lore to accommodate both types of summoning.

Outside of Titan and leviathan I haven't heard any plans for more primal battles. This leaves plenty of primals for the summoner class if they choose not to add additional primal battles. It seems each of the tribes have a god, and there are only so many tribes in the game at the moment..

What are some summons you'd like to see when Summoner comes around (eventually) Sanctus ? I know each tribe has a primal which they warship as a god. I know that the Tribes will always have the "true primal". I would just like to be able to summon the more traditional primals in one form or another. Doesn't have to look like the ones we're fighting, even if they had a slightly different form to them, I would be happy with that. I just think it's part of their identity within the franchise. But some cool alternative Summons could be Famfrit, Mateus, Ultima, Exodus, Adrammelech, and Chaos. I don't want Summoner to be stuck with lame summons :/

Shiva, Ramuh, Diabolos, Fenrir are the ones that stick out to me just off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more as well that I just haven't thought of that can be considered "epic" or "strong" primals for summoner that are not linked to beastmen gods.

basically the only ones summoner wont have access to are Ifrit, Garuda, Titan, Leviathan. Everything else is fair game

It would be pretty cool to have Diabolos and Fenrir but I think if Square Enix is going to continue the trend they started here, then Shiva and Ramuh will also belong to some random beast tribe they haven't added or created yet. Since there is no premise to introduce Shiva or Ramuh yet since there is no geological places of those elements (ice and lightning), I think its safe to say we wont see those two until post 2.0. But I'd bet my gil that Square will create some sort of Beastmen tribe for those respective primals to complete the cycle :/

Odin has been confirmed as a Later proimal fight so we wont see him. I will gladly giving up all the Primal fight avatars for Bahamut and Anima. Bahamut is one of the most Traditional Summons except in 11 and... 9 i believe didnt play it long enough to know if its summonable. So im hoping that Yoshi -p continues the tradition of Summoner having Bahamut.

Yeah, Odin is going to be a wandering Primal, similar to Final Fantasy XI where he would wonder around the Aht Urghan zones. I'm definitely looking forward to Bahamut making an appearance. I wonder how Square is gonnna work him in, in all this

here is Bahamut in Final Fantasy IX: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD_ZQ1PpDEA

He was obtainable and summonable, and in my opinion, the most bad ass of the all the Bahamuts ;P

I'm really hoping the "lesser summons" Square Enix is intending on adding isn't Carbuncle, or worse, Elemental Spirits :/ it would hurt my soul.
