*citation needed100% they are losing tons of money. People mod in cosmetics instead of buying them, people mod fantasia instead of buying them, people cheat encounters instead of grinding them.
They lose subscribers that found out how bad the cheating is in this game after the omega world first, and they're losing subscribers day by day as they learn that the game has no tamper-proofing. What is going to prevent you from using a third party addon against other players maliciously if square enix isn't doing anything to detect or prevent them? Nothing.
Okay, so now what about all the other players using whatever unsupported unlicensed unofficial mods that are unchecked by square enix? How is me not using mods going to prevent them from using malicious mods to steal my personal information? You think you want the wild west, but you really don't.
Fact is, the game is unsafe to anyone who cares about following the ToS. It's an open sandbox for modders and rulebreakers. If you don't fit in with that definition, it's best to avoid this game like the plague.

Nice strawman you made there.Lol, cmon you can't be serious. This can't be what you think it is what people have a problem with players using 3rd party tools for. Surely it's not the one that does rotation for you, the infamous zoom out one, the one that does rotation for you, Tele hacks, the one that tells you where to stand, botting(not even talking rmt here), cheating in cactpot, or anything else. No... ninja madras. Yup that's it.
The vast majority of PC users aren't using any of those programs nor are they the focal point of the thread. In fact, the overwhelmingly popular addons are cosmetic based or QoL like the aforementioned ping programs. Most of the people complaining about third party tools or screaming "won't someone please think of thechildrenconsole players!" are lumping in nonsense like ACT and dress mods that quite literally have zero impact on any form of gameplay.
Hence my response that consoles users upset with the QoL benefits PC users have (not the cheats) should be demanding their inclusion into the game itself and not crying foul at PC users.
Congratulations. You're a drop in the bucket compared to the tens of thousands who would quit overnight if mods and ACT were banned. And that's a very low estimation considering the sheer number of unique downloads many of these programs have nowadays.
I also find it hilarious you think people using nude mods should be arrested. It's one thing to not like them but arrested? Good lord. Even Karens would be telling you to calm down my dude.
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."
If the modding scene cost Square a significant amount of money, you can bet that they would've cracked down on them AGES ago. If anything mods keep people subbed longer.
Lol I'm gonna have to agree with you on this one. If it were an actual financial danger they would've absolutely done whatever in their power to prevent them. Not saying thats the full reasoning but probably a factor on why the dev team has been lax about it.
I don't think modders understand how good they were at hiding their cheating in this game. It was really surprising what I learned all just within this last short while over the omega protocol cheating scandal. I'm not sure how it happened this hard, but it's never been so published on the internet until now. Especially with yoshi-p making an official statement how there is no grey area and it's all just been rule breakers coping with their mental gymnastics.
How bad is the problem? I don't know, but I know it is bad enough for me to feel unsafe logging into this game personally. There is no anti-tamper in place, there is nothing they do to protect their legitimate players from modders. Even cosmetic mods are including malware at this point. It's different in WoW because it's all officially supported through blizzard's API, but in FFXIV you pretty much have to go to the dark web/discord to get addons. Most of them are extremely sketchy. You shouldn't be surprised if you get identity theft from playing this game.
Now you're just changing the subject instead of producing a citation that SE is losing tons of money.Okay, so now what about all the other players using whatever unsupported unlicensed unofficial mods that are unchecked by square enix? How is me not using mods going to prevent them from using malicious mods to steal my personal information? You think you want the wild west, but you really don't.
Also, you sound pretty paranoid. Best to unplug all electronic devices. Just to be sure.
I think they could loose money from them. Ones could use them to swap Mogstation outfits for normal gear. That cost them because one's using them wouldn't be buying them then.
