    Sprint Buff With Zero Cooldown In Cities To Balance Lack Of Mounts :MegaThread:

    I have been doing some research into why this is the only mainstream MMO to not allow mounts in major cities.

    From what other players have been telling me it's because this game allows you to stand on top of important in game assets such as quest giving NPCs or retainer bells. Thus blocking other players from accessing them.

    Another reason is that some of the mounts in the game are very large.

    Even though other games such as WoW, ESO and Lost ark have found ways to make mounts work just fine in cities it appears that much of the player base here does not want this to be a feature in this game.

    Thankfully some other players have suggested fixes for the lack of mounts in cities.

    Any support or suggestions are greatly appreciated as we work towards improving the QOL of this game!!

    Please reply to this thread with which fix you would like to see implemented!

    Options to fix this problem thus far.

    #1 Implement a zero cooldown sprint, a perma sprint or a sprint buff as soon as you enter a city that does not allow mounts.

    Edit** PVP style sprint toggle for island sanctuary, housing wards, as well as cities. Even better PVP style sprint toggle in all non combat areas.

    Edit** VeyaAkemi suggests below "Give us PvP Sprint while out of combat and instances, toggle on, falls off if you take any action, and as a bonus point, action changes to normal Sprint while in places you can't use toggable sprint, that's all I'd want."

    #2 Add collision detection around important in game assets such as quest giving NPCs and retainer bells. Allowing players to stand on top of important assets allows for griefing in not only cities but the world as a whole.

    Edit** A hotkey for "target nearest NPC" exits. Being able to target an NPC even though 50 players on mounts are standing on top of it largely eliminates the main issue people voiced over mounts in cities.

    #3 Better aethernet systems. Optimizing crystal teleportation so if you are inside the city already you can open your map and teleport to any of the aethernet crystals directly instead of having to teleport to the main hub and then to a smaller hub afterwards. This removes an extra step that is not needed and is not streamlined for QOL. Also adding more teleport locations would be another option.

    Edit** Press M in city to open map > click on any aethernet crystal > teleport directly to any crystal inside city from any location inside city

    NPCs with collision are almost never going to happen, considering how many quetlines have NPCs that disappear after giving a quest, or appear in multiple places throughout the quest and all that. Unless only NPCs that literally never move are given collision, but that would just be a weird inconsistency.

    As for sprint being a toggle or 0 cooldown in cities, while a cool solution, I'd honestly prefer better aethernet systems to that. Ul'dah is probably the best one in that regard and all other have glaring flaws in one spot or another.

    You make some good points here, I will add better aethernet systems to list of possible fixes.

    It is a major pain to be inside a city and have to move somewhere else but you first have to teleport to the main aethernet hub and then you can teleport to a smaller aethernet crystal afterwards adding an extra step that is not needed.

    Trying to shave off 5-7s from point A to B, eh?

    You could unlock a ranged DPS job and just use Peloton. Not as fast sprint, but should do the trick.
