    Thoughts on making stats more nuanced?

    I've been playing ffxiv for a long time now and one thing that's always been a point of dissatisfaction for me is just how crit rate, determination and direct hit all feel kind "samey" and skill speed etc; is just a redundant stat that you'll only ever put a few melds in to hit a certain breakpoint - but there is never reason to prioritise it.

    What would be your guys thoughts on making the stats more unique so you could actually optimise for one with certain trade offs and benefits (cause right now if you optimise for something like determination for example, there are no benefits you're just taking a dps loss) It's almost always standard to go crit + DH or crit + det or near enough every class, bar maybe BLM?

    imo it'd be cool if they each had like a specific focus, thoughts?

    I sadly missed out on when you could also meld the main stats of STR, VIT, MIND, INT etc; but that always struck me as something fun.

    I think one of the reasons why I've started to notice this more is cause a main selling point on FFXIV was we don't need stats to be unique and individual because class identity did that for you, each class felt unique and individual and did something very specific. But with recent reworks, a lot of the classes are starting to feel samey in their rotations and damage, and the only thing different is the aesthetic.

    I don't know if se can do it. Crit chance and crit damage probably should have been 2 different stats. To me... I don't do savage and l don't like to have empty sockets on my gears. So l just meld these yellow materia because they are trash therefore cheap.

    Yeah I think having the separate could be interesting and shake things up a little, I think it'd also be nice from a UI perspective if your current crit rate and crit damage were displayed as a % on your profile. Rather than the current numerical value.
    Maybe they'll shake things up in 7.0 I have no idea.

    In my subjective opinion, stats in FF14 can't be interesting because there's nothing for them to impact that is itself interesting. It's all just DPS, because DPS is the only thing you can do in FF14. And yes, as a player more DPS is indeed better. But it's not interesting.

    I wish Tenacity mattered more for Tanks. I wish spell speed mattered more for Mages. I wish Piety did something other than just make your mp come back at bigger ticks. We can't have those things though because square thinks players are too dumb to handle those decisions. "Is it worth a dps loss on tanks to be able to soak more damage?" No because the unga bungas will whine if they lose even a smidgen of their damage which is less than 40 percent of the damage a group needs to do to kill a boss. The irony of job specific stats being completely overshadowed by dps stats is actually laughable. Tenacity has a WHOLEASS box of text about how useful it is for tanks and noone cares about it except a warrior that can afford to slot it because he can force a direct hit crit whenever he wants to.

    I actually was going to hop on here to make a post here about stats being a good way to shake things up without completely reworking every class before I seen your post (I wish they would send out surveys to players over asking them to use a forum to say how they feel about the game since its daunting for a lot of people).

    making other stats more competitive with with just focusing crit would be a nice start but fixing the issues skill and spell speed has would also need to be done as well. Currently a lot of classes straight up either drift out of the 2 min burst phase if they have skill speed or they have skills that cant use skill or spell speed, merging both is a must if they buff stats impact. That aside reworking a stat to have a different type of gameplay rather than blanket (do more damage) would be fun, I know WoW has a Mastery stat that affects every class uniquely as just an example. Since black mage is one of the few classes that can do well with spell speed focused setups I do wonder if maybe making it so some stats scales to a different degree for each class would help prevent the potential for a class being broken/shoehorned into only going for one stat.
    Also healers almost have something cool going on when choosing direct hit vs determination but det has such a small increase in healing that it ends up being irrelevant.
