windowed mode too large for screen

I play on a tv screen with HD cable, the tv is a 1280p or something, and that's what i have the windowed mode set to (the lowest setting) but it's too large for my tv screen. the edges go over the edge of the screen and im clueless on how to change it, so i am forced to play in fullscreen mode, and can't use a web browser and stuff.. any help is appreciated!

Here's the issue with running your computer on a TV.

Most networks do not send out their broadcasts in "true" HD. If it was a full 16:9 aspect ratio, you'd see horizontal black bars on the top and bottom all the time.

To compensate, TV manufacturers include two options for aspect ratios. Setting it to "16:9" actually zooms in on the image slightly, so the TV broadcasts can still fill the entire screen. This presents a problem when connecting a computer through HDMI, because the computer's signal is a true 1920x1080 resolution.

You can fix this by looking at your picture mode and setting it to "Just Scan" (this could be named different depending on your TV model and manufacturer). That should make things look right, but you'll have to switch it back when watching TV.

Another thing a lot of TVs have is a "Game Mode" setting. I'd recommend finding that and using it when using your PC on the TV.

found it, tried it, same result. the scanning option did make me hopeful as it did something.. that I can't quite explain, but the ffxiv window still went over the 'edges' of it and did not display further. oh well, full screen it is. thanks for the tips!

some graphics cards have an option to resize your display to fit your screen. First try finding a resolution you like and then see if you can resize the screen in the nvidia control panel or what have you.

You need to have your window size set to the same as your screen resolution if you want it to fit.
