    The Better Commercials of Korea

It appears that once again the Korean marketing team has released a high quality, if not all too short video ad for the game. This one is quite nice and a definite improvement over the cringeworthy English ads that have come out in recent memory, while this one completely evades the issue having cringey lines or worse the awful Cocomelon artstyle.

The link to what western FFXIV ads should also be doing can be found here:

Seeing as a fair proportion of players dont speak Japanese fluently, it makes sense for them to be in English...wouldnt you say? I think that ad looks great, but..I dont speak Korean.

    Do you?

As for "cringeworthy", you are yet to tell us what about this game you DO like

I think most of it stems from having it be real actors instead of animations, it feels like someone who has no clue about a subject trying to cater randomly with no goal in mind. Compared to the ones you linked, yeah I agree, they tend to reflect it better.

No comment on the cringe part, as that plays a part in understanding a language, could be cringe to those who speak it ^^"

Normally you'd have to wonder why does anyone here even care about ads at all, we're all already playing the game. Non of us can be target of those ads. Targetting ads at the people who have already bought in currently is the very peak of futility. But then we have to realize that his problem lies with the target audience, he simply doesnt want other people who have other opinions than him play the game. Good luck on your crusade, buddy.

Why can't we get those anime commercials? It captures the game vibes more than the live-action cosplayers commercials that we usually get.

Because like Saraide said, they are trying to bring in new blood. Yeah the anime one would be good for someone already playing the game or in a circle to hear about the game, but what about Randy Rando dnd player who has put off this game cause its and "anime" game. Its a targeted ad for those outside the realm of JRPG fans.

I really like how it shows the whole gatherer/crafting process that goes into the weapon being built, and then shows it getting used on a boss. Really nails the connected community feeling, even if the reality is that gatherer was a bot who undercuts thousands of real people every day, and the crafter who made the sword probably sold it at a loss competing against other crafters who have gil cap and just sell at a loss for lulz, and the guys who took that sword into the dragon fight are probably all in their own unique solo FCs created for submarine farming or an ezhouse or both, and at least two of them are viewing the fight zoomed out from the moon through a telescope and uploading their footage to twitch so they can make surprised_pikachu faces when they're "exposed" later.

Do you really think a DnD fan will play FFXIV instead of playing Runescape, WoW classic, Guild Wars, Elder scrolls and any other MMO that is more western and more DnDish?
I think it's better if SE tried to cater to the anime fanbase since they're the target audience of this game.

Short answer Yes. Long answer, yes if you can dispel any reservations they have on the property.

You do run out of your target demographic eventually. Its good to reach out to other audiences to try and beef up game population.

I am that type of player. I have a strong preference for western RPGs, specificially cRPGs and enjoy games based on DnD and similar rulesets although that's optional. Pathfinder, Baldur's Gate series, IWD, NWN, Dragon Age serioes, Divinity series... these kind of games are what I enjoy. The only jRPGs I've ever played in my life were FF8, FF9 and FF10 although the latter only halfway because my PS2 broke after we got it.
FFXIV definitely put me off at first. But there are reasons to stay even when it doesn't match your preference, mainly friends, guilds and statics.
So all you really need to do is catch them, hold them for long enough to build some form of connection and you have succesfully caught someone outside your target audience. I'm here for my static and some friends. But if my static and friends decided to go for a different MMO, I would join in a heartbeat. I'd personally prefer to play the MMOs you listed over FFXIV.

They don't have to cater to the non-target audience, they only have to somehow capture them and keep them barely long enough for other factors to become more important than their preference. Easy enough to do in a MMO.
But that anime commercial definitely would've put me off even more. I'm indifferent to it now but if I had yet to decide on whether to play it or not, that would've more likely caused me to look to other games after all. That said, the cosplay commercial wasn't exactly my thing either, the whole bright-eyed adventurer that holds hands with everyone and touts friendship everywhere vibe never did it for me.
