This is in line with all the other innuendo in the game. Apparently OP has never done fates in coerthas. Ser alaimbert of the spiked butt is far worse than this.

The FR localization is usually close to JP and the wood innuendos are completely absent from it.
But it's a series of puns who only really work in English, wood doesn't have the same connotation in French.
I think the NA localization just saw the opportunity and rolled with it instead of trying to manoeuver around it.

True but usually sometimes they play along with whatever intended humorous effect was given in the original scene. Since the cutscene the npcs are expressing something of the sort I assume the japanese script played to a joke thats akin to that or at least similar.
