Play ranged or die....
Death Is Only The Beginning....
Top 1 player on Light plays DRG with pretty good overall split between melee and ranged below. Sounds like positioning issue.

I mean... are they though? Yes their ideal playstyle is essentially starting the burst with Geirskogul, then High Jump -> Heaven's Thrust, maybe Chaotic Spring, Elusive Jump out into Wyrmwind Thrust and Nastrond, but unlike NIN they actually have to dive in.
A hit and run maybe, but not a fake ranged like Ninja.
ninja is just a summoner with knives, change my mind.

Those aren't ranged, they are healers.
The only ranged job that consistently shows up in top players on Light is RDM. The rest is just a broken record of AST/WHM, MNK, DRG, NIN...
gotta love it when people constantly dismiss your opinion because somebody nobody actually cares about is number 1 in a server i never heard about untill now.

Melee requires ppl to not fight in the open and abuse cover. As above said, melee/tank are perfectly viable, it's just you generally have to play more carefully.
Especially against Bard and White Mage CC.

Melee (dps, not tanks) isn't an easy role to play, but if you play at top level it's also the jobs that consistently offer so much abusable defense that a great player will almost always get away with what they do. You get to a point where punishing them becomes a literal chore even when your team decides to dedicate resources to actually defend its ranged.
If anything, and maybe it's a DC thing, but most of the top players on my own either play melee or healers, both with very high skill ceilings. Good luck not being atomized to shreds as a ranged player in top crystal games as soon as the enemy team sneezes in your general direction.
