New Races

Hey there, I've been playing FF for awhile now and I've found myself feeling let down by the amount of playable races there are. I don't know what SE reason behind this is, being that they want more humanoid races or what, but I just wish we had more races to choose from. Personally I would enjoy to play as Kobold. They've always seemed like a cool race to play as. I get that making gear for these classes would be a little tough but I mean my most played races are Viera and Hrothgar so I don't mind the missing gear that much.

I just wish we had more options and weren't so restricted in playable races. Let me know how you feel about this.

Probably won't happen. Would require them to animate beast race models and make unique gear for them specifically and most if not all gear uses Hyur as a base and gets slightly altered to fit the other races skeletons. So while MMOS like GW2 or WoW have actual race diversity you probably won't see any here.

They even fail with this already in FFXIV with the lack of appropriate footwear for Hrothgar/Viera given Hroths are clawed and Viera have pointed feet. Which goes away with any gear not tailored for them.

They've pretty much admitted that they are not adding more playable races any more due to sheer work required to make them work. Hrothgar and Viera still have no hats and we're still waiting on Female Hrothgar.

Aside from the possibility of female Hrothgar, I do not forsee any changes to the playable races. They already mentioned that Viera and Hrothgar were the last ones they would create three years ago, before Shadowbringers came out.

There was a survey of players back when 2.0 was coming out about it, beast races were at the bottom of the list.

Perhaps maybe we can get new clans of the existing races from far-flung parts of Etheriys like the New World and Meracydia some day.

I get the argument, but there's a lot with the game engine and the way gear has to be designed to show up on the character models that make this...rather complex. I'm not certain, but a part of me thinks there's likely some 1.X ghosts still floating around making it a pita as well.

You can vaguely cosplay as a Goblin or Dwarf, and some of the Beast Tribes offer outfits for their general looks, but that's probably the extent of it for the time being. You absolutely could RP as a Dwarf traveling the world if you wanted to, though the hat options are somewhat limited and sadly tied to Role/Class.

I don't think they're going to add a new race after female Hrothgar. I would rather they work about expanding customization of current races before considering anything new. I hope in the future they work on expanding face options and other areas where they can improve diversity, such as new clans within the existing races, without having to make an entirely new race to do it
