Would you be opposed to SE implementing a program to scan for addons/parsers?

It's not something I would take on and it's not my concern. If I were on the square enix team, I would actively try to address the issue and crack down on cheating pretty hard. I'm not, so it's not my problem. I can only voice how the impact of addons makes this game feel extremely illegitimate, and how parses are no longer a valid metric of anything meaningful anymore with the prevalence of cheaters. Every legitimate player gets a significant tax to their parse when the majority of the "elite" playerbase is abusing addons to inflate their parses. It has a really foul impact on the greater picture of performance metrics. If you respect or take parses seriously, you might as well be complicit with cheaters.

@Iyrnthota everyone knows dot uptime should be 100%, and that the gcd should be constantly rolling. If you need an external source to tell you this, you have deeper concerns.

At the end of the day, this entire discussion and situation isn't as black and white as you want it to be, no matter how much you want it to be so. I've seen some harsh opposition to add-ons and mods through the years, but you are incredibly hostile. More than most I've seen. Perhaps you should take a step back for a moment and collect yourself.

I don't really agree and I think that your position on addons is influencing your emotional response a bit more than you might like.

You wouldn't agree because you can't see it. I have no horse in this race other than perhaps advocating for SE to add certain features to better the game. I'm not the one with a problem here, trust me.

There is no problem, I am criticizing the state of the game and voicing my perspective as someone who refuses to break ToS.

You are advocating for anyone who may voice any sort of support or open-mindedness for add-ons or mods to be punished based on no proof at all. If opinions are enough for a ban (they are not in this case), then I guess you qualify for one as well. All you see is black and white, and the situation is anything but.

If I worked at square enix and read this thread, I would investigate the accounts of the people defending the use of addons in this thread and others like it. I would either take action if they were proven guilty, or scoff at them and move on if they were innocent but just defending the use of addons.

If someone is caught breaking ToS, they should be banned. If someone is talking about how they think addons are okay, that's fine it's just suspicious.

This game is at a turning point I think with the hot water of this world first race. Either it will go the direction of WoW and become a toxic meme, or it will crack down hard on addons to remove the problem from the equation.

I will never care about the game until it is legitimate in this way, but it's still a fun RPG experience that I enjoy to immerse myself in. It's just not legitimate from a performance metric perspective. It's like being against steroids, and caring about how you perform relative to a community that embraces steroids. Why would I ever be bothered by a low parse? The game is not legit.
