There is a difference between a massive corporation [most likely not SE themselves] having access to your data and a small fan run service and a small number of trusted players that are likely your friends having that access.
Actually, there is no difference between them. In both cases there could be something running in the background of their programs or mods that is collecting information and then be used for something else. Only that corporations are legally bound to tell you what they do via ToS/EULA before agreeing.
Just because they are your friends or a small fan run service doesn't mean you should relax and thoughtlessly install anything.
Trust, but verify.
