Would you be opposed to SE implementing a program to scan for addons/parsers?

There is no problem, I am criticizing the state of the game and voicing my perspective as someone who refuses to break ToS.

You are advocating for anyone who may voice any sort of support or open-mindedness for add-ons or mods to be punished based on no proof at all. If opinions are enough for a ban (they are not in this case), then I guess you qualify for one as well. All you see is black and white, and the situation is anything but.

@Iyrnthota everyone knows dot uptime should be 100%, and that the gcd should be constantly rolling. If you need an external source to tell you this, you have deeper concerns.

I would disagree actually, I don't think everyone does, because the game generally does a very bad job at actually teaching you how to get better. The games base tool for self improvement are drastically lacking.

It has no way to track your own improvement, beyond "I think I did more casting that time" or "It felt like I had my DoT up more consistently", and after a point, the only way you're going to know what you should be doing to improve is to refer to external information.

Not even add-ons. I wouldn't have a clue what the best Monk rotation/opener would be if I didn't refer to places like the Balance or Icy Veins.

What? You're twisting my words into something I never even remotely implied.

If I worked at square enix and read this thread, I would investigate the accounts of the people defending the use of addons in this thread and others like it. I would either take action if they were proven guilty, or scoff at them and move on if they were innocent but just defending the use of addons.

If someone is caught breaking ToS, they should be banned. If someone is talking about how they think addons are okay, that's fine it's just suspicious.

This game is at a turning point I think with the hot water of this world first race. Either it will go the direction of WoW and become a toxic meme, or it will crack down hard on addons to remove the problem from the equation.

I will never care about the game until it is legitimate in this way, but it's still a fun RPG experience that I enjoy to immerse myself in. It's just not legitimate from a performance metric perspective. It's like being against steroids, and caring about how you perform relative to a community that embraces steroids. Why would I ever be bothered by a low parse? The game is not legit.

What I can say is that everyone above 90% parse is cheating, and probably even everyone above 80%.

Good luck competing with people who cheat when you don't. Parses are based on the community's performance, it's not some hypothetical. It is based on the state of reality. The reality is that cheating is widespread in this game, so much that people feel entitled to defend breaking ToS on the official forums openly.

I can guarantee you that's not true. You won't believe me and call me a cheater, ask for me to get banned because I "defend breaking ToS" or whatever, and then I'll ask you who is worse for the community : people that parse and feel good about themselves for being 80 or 90%+ without add-ons (and I do believe those are the majority, at least among those I know), or people that go witch-hunting based on nothing other than "this guy has a big dps".

Until 75%, it's skill but lack of gear and team synergy. From 75-90%, it's good gear and lack of team synergy, and above that, it's the combination of these. I personally haven't got any 99+%, but I do know raiders that have those and never used anything but parsers. But those are commited and try-harding people, and it's ok to not be one of those.

Not sure what you're talking about then since I never implied what you fear. Unless you're using addons and having a little bit of a panic at my suggestion?

Then I'm just not sure what your point is. Square enix has the tools to check into the accounts of their players. If I was working at square enix, I would check out the suspicious users posting in this thread. If they're not found guilty, no problem. If they are? Good riddance. Actioning people who use addons has a ripple effect. If enough people are banned, people will just stop using them out of fear. People will cry in public on reddit about losing access to their account because of addons, and others will slowly but surely smarten up to avoid losing their investment in the game world.

A little bit of policing goes a long way sometimes.

and yes, I am trying to fearmonger against addon users. You should be worried about what might happen to your account if you are defending breaking ToS on the official forums. It's a really bad look for the company and game.
