Man, this thread seems to have lost at least a couple pages worth of posts since last night, although the difference seems to have been made up by additional posts.

Funny, it looks like the posts being removed are mostly those of people going full mental ward in their persecution of "cheaters."

I haven't been on the WoW forums in a long time, but back when I played it was notorious for being the worst in the entire MMO community. Followed closely by SWTOR which had articles written about it on gaming sites.

Maybe it's changed now though, and the WoW community is more chill. The FFXIV forums, however, suck bad. People here are cantankerous, trollish, and spend the majority of their time hating on the game for literally anything. And it's not because "We all care about the game and want to see it improve." Yeah no.

Constructive criticism is great and is warranted. And this game is not without its flaws. But the amount of hate heaped on the game here is stupid.

Reddit and Discord are far better communities.

I would be inclined to agree, but the reality is that the Official Forums can be just as bad, if not worse than Reddit and Discord in many occasion, especially with 'General Discussion'. People on many threads seem far more inclined to engage in meta-discussion rather than actually address a debate or post directly. Further, many threads tend to devolve into accusatory remarks, to where the thread deviates from the original intention of the topic. Unironically, forums would benefit from having a downvote system, and would similarly benefit from proper moderation, too many threads fester far too long before they're moderated, if at all.

I certainly won't deny Reddit isn't without its faults, especially the mainsub, but on the whole both it, the discussion variant and general purpose discords are not really different than the OF. The one benefit of downvoting is it does prevent conversation derailing like this thread was long subjected to as responses aren't buried under a mire of useless back and forths. Is it abused? Absolutely. Just not to the extent you're implying.

The only thing I don't like about ACT is it's presence in other content. If it were truly exclusive to people running savage or ultimate, or even EX, and used only to improve their performance then a lot of these arguments would be perfectly valid. The reality is it's used in nearly all content, the fact that my character has a number of logs despite having never done any savage or ultimate raiding nor having run ACT myself attests to that. It has been and will continue to be used to harass and belittle players in content where the kind of performance demanded by savage just isn't necessary. The current stance of the dev team trying to kind fo turn a blind eye to it while still keeping it against the TOS is what is allowing players pursuing savage and other raids to use it while prohibiting it's use in when it becomes in issue in other content, as long as the raiders at least make some attempt to keep it to themselves.

If someone uses ACT to harass you, you can report them and they will get punished.

It doesn't really help when most players aren't dumb enough to actually voice their grievances with another and instead just wordlessly remove them from the party so they have no grounds for punishment.

You don't even need ACT for that. I had a Manalis run a couple of days ago where one of the DPS either had MASSIVE skill issues or was openly a bot. He would move into AoEs, wrote meaningless stuff in chat and would mostly autoattack the bosses.



There are millions of ways to see that someone is not pulling their weight without using ACT. Mainly through knowledge of that job, the rotation and the skill animations.
