RDM IMO should have at least been something like a hybrid DPS that had physical damage skills using it's melee weapon along with magic damage in the form of spells. However I suppose the issue with that kind of design is how simplified the game is in regards to normal JRPG mechanics. Past iterations of RDM were normally a sort of jack of all trades job that could melee, nuke, heal, and support via buffs or debuffs. However in those past games they were usually outperformed in each individual aspect by jobs that specialized in that aspect trading tailored specializations other jobs possessed for overall flexibility. FFXIV's current design pretty much eliminates any use for job flexibility resulting in the RDM we have now that while isn't necessarily bad, it feels like a shell of it's past selves.
I could dig that. Maybe Adept or whatnot, as an agile, swift, fluid attacker wielding a staff as an actual weapon?

Unfortunately, they've ingrained a lot of elements from other classes/jobs into the ones that exist, so adding something else in a similar vein could be seen at redundant by the devs. That's not to say that Geomancer and other jobs with similar thematic elements to current ones couldn't happen, but I do feel that it is highly unlikely. If I am proven wrong in the future, then that's fine. Great, even.
What other classes in particular, like Black Mage and Summoner? The whole idea of Geomancy is to control the earthly elements/weather to damage enemies or buff allies. In traditional FF games, they wield either Bells or Axes; though since axe is already used by Warriors, their weapon of choice would most likely be bells which is still a weapon type unique enough to introduce into FFXIV.Unfortunately, they've ingrained a lot of elements from other classes/jobs into the ones that exist, so adding something else in a similar vein could be seen at redundant by the devs. That's not to say that Geomancer and other jobs with similar thematic elements to current ones couldn't happen, but I do feel that it is highly unlikely. CNJ and WHM share/shared some elements, mostly from the nature aspect, like stone/wind themed spells, Stoneskin and Stone for example, the first of which was removed but is still used by random NPCs. Archer and BRD shares traits with, well, BRD and Ranger. Warrior has Viking-like traits and abilities, all while wielding a giant axe. I could go on, but I think my point has been made. They've combined a lot of past FF jobs into the ones we have now in FF XIV as hybrids of sorts. I'm not opposed to them branching out though. I'm just calling it as I see it.What other classes in particular, like Black Mage and Summoner? The whole idea of Geomancy is to control the earthly elements/weather to damage enemies or buff allies. To add onto this, Yoshi-P has already said that any future jobs will likely not come from the FF catalog of jobs and be completely new.CNJ and WHM share/shared some elements, mostly from the nature aspect, like stone/wind themed spells, Stoneskin and Stone for example, the first of which was removed but is still used by random NPCs. I don't expect a healer to come out in 7.0 considering they already went through an effort to sort out the 3 we had before to make room for a 4th.Originally Posted by Matsui
As long as new game elements aren’t being introduced, new jobs are designed to fulfill a battle role that can already be filled by an existing job. That said, we can’t release a superior version of a certain job, and a new job that offers the same experience as an existing one would defeat the purpose of adding a new job. In that sense, it’s very difficult to come up with a new job.
It would be nice to add a scouting job since there's only 1 that uses that gear and that would round us out to 2 striking, 2 maiming, and 2 scouting DoW. Beyond that, I wouldn't have a guess. Maybe a prestige version of BLU that's balanced for group play that's unlocked if you complete all the BLU content.
Or maybe if we go to the New World, BLU is the poster class itself anyway.
