For what its worth, in 2.0 we get multiple characters so if you want to see the storylines that badly you can just make extra characters for that purpose.

The war with the garleans is still there in 2.0 (I hope).
The grand companies were re-established because of the threat by the garleans. About project meteor they only learned later.
Don't forget, the grand companies were already in the plan before yoshida came to the team.
Grand Company still in 2.0? Yes I'm very sure. But with another quests.

Yes. And I hope that if you retire, you will be considered a traitor and you should get one hit kill by Odin every time you log in.
Tbh I really think their should be a lot more meaningful choices like this that do lock out other content, or effect it, or changing it should be a huge, huge effort to undo that if you can..
But then id also love to see all the other story from a outside point of view before 2.0.
- Meeting someone who was around to see the UL/LL/Grid openings and story that isn't where you started, an more story around them, same as seeing the other GC things from an outside PoV ect...
Personally I'm hoping the GC's are still about in a changed form, maybe related to world events and PC's are more PvP orientated in style (that's not saying forced PvP).
So we still have links to the past, but they are no longer the focus of it.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
With the new quests we now work more closely with other grand companies and can participate in each other's caravan runs.
I do not see it beyond the realm of reason that one day we would engage in a quest that would have our grand company 'lend' us to aid the other grand company (and therefore engage in all its quests).
(Although the rewards may still be of our own GC so that shopping is GC exclusive).
To this: no. For someone to experience 'as much' of the game as possible on their one avatar/character, this is not a feasable option. And 'until' 2.0 we are restricted to 1 character due to billing at a normal subscription fee with no add-ons. When you take the broad scheme of achievements, completion of content, etc.. xi really did set the bar for being able to complete game content for story, and classes/jobs all one one character. xiv is more restricted by player choice currently to dissalow experience of all game content on one character, but as it currently stands you have to pay extra for another slot to play other stories and invest time into leveling a different character for really only that one purpose.

I know there are naysayers who would quickly dismiss this theory, and I am aware I speak to some enlightened souls, and the occasional troll... However, I don't think this is a bad idea. I would hate to see them fall down the path that wow laid down to pay for faction changes every so many days. Even if there was a penalty of losing all rank should you retire and having to start from scratch I'd see it a fair compromise for getting to experience all of the game content.
But the topic of 'if they did this/that' at this point is moot. It's far too late for content development considering no one truly knows what the future holds post 2.0. Things could be the same, they could be similar, they could be struggling, or they could be completely ripped up and not even matter.
Was being bombarded by 20 messages before joining the Grand Company not enough for you? Christ. You made a decision, one which Yoshi-P stressed would be a permanent on numerous occasions. Reroll a character if it means that much to you, or deal with it.
Thats no reason..
why? With 2.0. there will be -new- Grand Company Quests overall. you maybe will start from the first grand company quest on. maybe not. but we will see.
the world is also a complete new one. yes we should have chosen because of the grand companies philosophy and not because of the outward apperance of the specific region.. -_-
but to be honest, many did so.
when i chose a specific grand company, i also chose it because i want to fight for that region i prefer and like the most. and gridania was horrible in pre 2.0. and i dont know if i will like gridania in 2.0... in 2.0. gridania will look completely new, and what if Ul'dah will look like a complete wasteland and i dislike it then the most?
so i say there has to be an option.
i made this decision in an mostly complete other game. 2.0. and pre 2.0. are complete different shoes.
new players can chose with consideration to the new environment and me as an old player since beta cant? the game will change in its appearance for 80%.
the decision for a grand company is 60% of preferation for the region (for the faction) itself and 40% for liking their philosophy and story background... well just for me it is personally..
so why we cant have a new choice? "New" game = new choice. end of discussion
Its not only about the story, you will also fight in PVP for your grand company.. and i want to fight for that company which i like the most THEN..
the world changes for 100%. i didnt chose gridania as grand company because gridania is really horrible NOW.. and what if Ul'dah is a complete grey wasteland in 2.0. and i dislike the story as well? 2.0. and pre 2.0. are different worlds.
so i want a complete new choice like new players also have... to take the complete new world into consideration of my choice.

read the entire thread before leaving trash talk. I've said multiple times I'm not upset.. This is theorycrafting talk, not bickering or bi**hing.
