To this: no. For someone to experience 'as much' of the game as possible on their one avatar/character, this is not a feasable option. And 'until' 2.0 we are restricted to 1 character due to billing at a normal subscription fee with no add-ons. When you take the broad scheme of achievements, completion of content, etc.. xi really did set the bar for being able to complete game content for story, and classes/jobs all one one character. xiv is more restricted by player choice currently to dissalow experience of all game content on one character, but as it currently stands you have to pay extra for another slot to play other stories and invest time into leveling a different character for really only that one purpose.

I do not see it beyond the realm of reason that one day we would engage in a quest that would have our grand company 'lend' us to aid the other grand company (and therefore engage in all its quests).

(Although the rewards may still be of our own GC so that shopping is GC exclusive).

I know there are naysayers who would quickly dismiss this theory, and I am aware I speak to some enlightened souls, and the occasional troll... However, I don't think this is a bad idea. I would hate to see them fall down the path that wow laid down to pay for faction changes every so many days. Even if there was a penalty of losing all rank should you retire and having to start from scratch I'd see it a fair compromise for getting to experience all of the game content.

But the topic of 'if they did this/that' at this point is moot. It's far too late for content development considering no one truly knows what the future holds post 2.0. Things could be the same, they could be similar, they could be struggling, or they could be completely ripped up and not even matter.
