Retire from faction option...

I haven't been on the forums since shortly after our wonderful Naoki Yoshida took over, I did a couple search inquiries and couldn't find anything with any actual depth to this point.

But has there been any talk related to an option that allows you to retire from a faction (therefore allowing you to change alliegances to another grand company) to be later implemented?

I don't think so. I think the fact they allow you to do some of the early quests in each faction before pledging helps the player make up their mind. My understanding is that its a permanent choice.

The answer was Nope, no way, no how, get over it... Sorry. I too wish there was a way, but there are no plans for this.

If I had to guess, I think the GCs will be Disbanded in 2.0 what with the whole 7th Umbral Era story being fully woven into it. Buuuut, ya never know. They might change there mind.

That said, Yoshi did plan to implement a "free company" system in 2.0, which would allow more leniency in this.

I think you're missing the point.
Remember how you had to go and sit through a speech from each leader and them make your permanent decision?

There might be a way to get items from other companies later though.

They have no intention of allowing allegiance switching. You're not really missing anything anyway.

The "free company" system doesn't mean "freely change companies" it means player run companies.

I'm not complaining by any means. There were obvious points that made it seem permanent and It would be foolish to complain afterwards. This was simply a matter of curiosity.

I know no one wants to get into a "Well xi did this" topic. but it was nice to change city states to experience different storylines later on.

This is what I've been thinking. Which is a shame but makes sense. With the implementation of PCs. I would have liked to see the option, but with a big penalty / one time offer. After all it was hard to see reward wise what we were getting into, despite the trial of all 3 nations.

I had a very hard time deciding between immortal flames and the maelstrom, wish I could experience the story of all 3 lol.

Regardless of either I would pick there would always be a tiny feeling of regret for not choosing the other.

I mean if they want to make money i see that being the best way.
