I was wondering if there were ever plans to implement, like, a workbench thing for crafters to 'sit at'. It looks so uncomfortable to kneel and craft the way our crafters do. Maybe something for our apartments?

I would guess that it might not be possible, since we already have the specialty crafting stations for player housing, and yet all you can do is interact with them for a buff and then keep on crafting on the floor.
You can /sit with FSH and get a little stool. I assume they theoretically could do the same for crafters.
I'll be honest, I never changed posed, or attempted to see if the other gatherers(unlikely)/Crafter change in position.
but i doubt it's much. will see. though not wholly required
It's definitely possible for them to update the animations for crafters. For many of them such as BSM, ARM, CUL, and ALC, it would actually make more sense for them to be standing behind a station or workbench. Others like WVR and GSM would be working in a sitting position. I don't think any of them would actually be kneeling except perhaps LTW, and CRP, and would also depend on if they're using the primary or secondary tool.
I've lost touch with crafting this expansion because I just got so bored with it, and new animations would definitely bring some novelty back to the classes even if only temporary. I would love it so much if I could take some screenshots of my character weaving/knitting a new garment from a comfy chair in my home.
The thing with standing to craft is the benches have to start taking up more space, instead of just being those compact benches on a riser. The cities get cluttered enough with crafters doing their thing. Now imagine dozens of these workbenches all over the place. Kneeling may seem odd or uncomfortable, but it's the best fit for all of them.
It's definitely not a matter of taking up more space. You'd think clutter would take place next to or near appraisers and traders in cities, but this is hardly the case. This might be an issue during a x.2 and x.4 releases when new recipes are released for combat gear, but this is the same game where they've allowed mounts to be ridden in player congested zones in the past, and had to ask players to be respectful and not overlap a summoning bell with their Behemoths and whales. The thing with standing to craft is the benches have to start taking up more space, instead of just being those compact benches on a riser. This is a matter of development time and priorities. Having a basic animation across all crafting classes that really just switches out the tool just saves them time. I can understand that, and have brought it up on many occasions. However, if they wanted to make the crafting classes look and feel less homogenous this is absolutely something they could look into.
EQ2 made the move to summoned stations a while back. I know what they look like and I feel like we don't need that in this game with the amount of crafters that are out there regularly. It would become another effect people will want to hide. I like being able to go anywhere to craft whatever and not have this big table or forge in front of me looking so out of place. Are we really going to talk about these like the adventure classes and throw around words like homogenous? They don't all have the same basic animations as you claim (except for the irrelevant battle / victory stance). I don't feel like they're worth the time to stand apart any further than they already do. What would be worth the time is to allow gposing with these actions.
Would be cool if there was some sort of integration with the crafting housing items that give the buffs. If you craft next to it, the animation changes so that you actually use the crafting station in your crafting animation or something.
I have always hated how we are kneeling down to make stuff. It's so stupid LOL.
I actually prefer crafting stations than this crap.
