Spiritbonding Question

Is there a cap on how much spiritbond gain I can have on? I've heard it caps at +6 with the superior spiritbond potion but I would like a concrete answer on if this has been found out so I don't waste time and resources getting items that would go past the +6 threshold. Thank you!

It doesn't really cap. It just doesn't stack. Running the rank 2 FC buff gives the same amount. There's a rank 3 that gives a little more.

The cap is +5 for DoL. It's not capped for DoH.

Can also confirm DoH caps at +6. While DoH doesn't have a cap, I think it maxes out at 1% spiritbond for a craft.

Short form: spiritbonding is dark magic, and demonstrably no one entirely understands the math behind it except maybe SQEX. (And possibly not even SQEX; sometimes code takes on a life of its own...)

I say that as a joke, but... I'm also kind of not entirely joking, as this thread demonstrates.

I forgot spirit bonding was even a thing. I get so much materia via item turn-ins that I could make a rather impressive ball pit.

Been a long time but you can do two things to an item.

1. Break it down to some of it's raw components to craft something else.

2. If 100% spiritbonded you can turn the item into materia instead.

They took away the part where you lose the item a couple years ago, so you can just repeat whatever process gives the best bond and keep your nice gear while you generate materia.

You can extract materia out of it, which resets spiritbond back to 1%. There's no reason to ever NOT do it when you see items at 100% and even your inventory thing shows the items with 100% spiritbond as white, not green as reminder to extract it. You dont lose anything and there are no advantages to having higher spiritbond. And highest-tier materia from current high-level gear can sell on MB pretty well, as well as some tier-1 combat materia.
