I tell people this all the time and no one listens :x

It exists, but genuine long term interest in said content does not exist. People jump in on the content hype train when it's released then forget about it later when they either no longer need it or get bored of it. Everyone that comes after either sees this and mimics this attitude or decides that it isn't worth the trouble.

PF is a big part of that community problem with the content. You have people that are going in half-hearted to get this stuff done and it takes away from the fun that could be had either from learning or getting clears.

I always talk about this with frontline. Too many people aren't invested in the idea of making the effort to get a win. They just want a carrot, even if it's not the best one. The faster they eat those carrots, the sooner they get to the big prizes and yet they're left feeling stuffed and miserable about it. Others then try to say things like Rival Wings need more carrots. I disagree because of what I just described in FL.

But obviously we can't have horizontal progression in this game for obvious reasons. Same reasons why classes/jobs have to be balanced to the point of homogenization. Besides, this is SE's yen tree. Why disrupt the formula when there are more than enough happy with the current situation. The forums are just a fraction of the actual playerbase, I would love to see the numbers of active players that use the mogshop and the active posters here. I would bet that the mogshop users outnumber the posters, it's just a situation of majority rules. Sorry. :/
    This sums it up perfectly

The #1 defense of FFXIV’s content model is that it “lets you play other games”. Sure, that’s true. So don’t make me pay a sub.

The #3 defense is that you can do old stuff with your friends. Sure, I’ll replay what I already bought. But don’t make me pay for it again and again.

FFXIV was never meant to be someone’s main game. I get it. It was never supposed to compete with WoW or other online games in respect to our time and energy. But why is it propped up like one?

Zadnor is always filled with people. Mind you, not full but 9 out of 10 times you'll find a farm party and constant runs for Dalriada. Eureka is also surprisingly active, in all of its instances. When was the last time you visited those instances? Mind you they're not as active as when they were current content, but they're far from dead. Zadnor is still arguably the fastest way to level from 71 to 80, and people are using it for their classes all the way to 90, and the stuff you can buy for clusters and coins still sells really well in the MB.

Eureka surprised me cause I never ran it when it was current, but again: every time I go in there seems to be a train for FATEs and people solo leveling. I'm now well on my way to get my SCH book. I don't think there's a perfect type of content that's guaranteed to never lose its mass appeal, but Bozja and Eureka are doing much better than you may think.

Honestly I'd argue we have tons of it. Savage would fall into that category imo. Not week one clears maybe but there are tons of groups who clear late in the tier.

I'm no top tier player and I clear savage. I'm mostly average.

That's how you see it, that's not how "everyone" see it. People play games for different reasons. I had "hundred" of clears in Stormblood EX simply because those fights were fun, probably the best EXs ever in the game. I also played hundred clears of Titania 'cause I love that fight too. I continued to do them even after I don't need anything any more, including the mount. Samething with PvP, I play it almost every day despite I never really care about the reward, 'cause I just like it.

    - I don't really do criterion either, but that's because it's simply not fun, not because of the lack of reward.
    - I didn't find the grind for the 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 relic fun, so despite liking some of the skin I was like "ok I'll come back in a few years" ... and that's exactly what I did.
    - I have A LOT of the Boza relic though, but not only because I like the skin, but because I had a blast playing that content.

While I won't deny a balance with the reward certainly help ... but the way you put it. Playing x for the reward even if you hate it, and vice versa ... seem to be a pretty ... sad way to spend time in a game, 'cause that sounds like a job.

And as someone point out, the community can't even agree on what "mid-core" content is. The joke about "customers are always right" is "what happens your customers don't agree with each others".

We need some horizontal grinding at the beginning of the expansion. Give us zadnor style levels for each dungeon. Maybe some sort of progress bar for each dungeon where we unlock concept art or background information about a location or place. Anything really would be nice.

Also so it is not left unsaid, your subscription cost is just alternative way to pay for the DLC.
In an alternative world, FFXIV would have no subscription fee and each major patch would require 15-20 dollars to access.
