The way duty portraits works right now, is frankly, inexcusable. Why does it have to reset at a drop of a hat? Change one small piece of your gear/glam? Reset. Extract/Meld a materia? Reset. Local cat catches a pigeon? Reset. It's no wonder 6 out of 8 people in my duties have default potraits, it takes a special kind of mindset to have this mess updated all the time. First 10 times, it's a fun novelty. 11th time? People just won't bother anymore.

Why can't duty portraits behave exactly like Adventure Plate portraits? You don't see Adventure Plate portraits resetting at the drop of a hat. You can wear entirely different outfit or even a job, and the portrait still stays there. So why can't you make it work exactly the same way for Duty Portraits? Who would even care if portrait wouldn't reflect the outfit a person might wear at that moment? People who care about their portraits to be updated all the time and reflect their outfits at the time of a duty down to the last detail can manually update it just like they can with Adventure Plate Portraits. People who don't would still be able to be creative and have their portraits just the way they like them, even if it isn't up to date. The only difference is that people would actually have a CHOICE. Right now there is no choice, you either make it a chore and have it manually updated every time you get into a duty, or you get your default mug displayed. I don't think there's any winners in current system compared to what it would be like if Duty Portraits behaved exactly like plate portraits.
