Bard: Disappointing Missed Opportunity of a Job

Imagine if the square team had the foresight to use classical guitar instead of the harp.

How much cooler would that have been? How much more "bardic" that would have played out to be.

What a sad, sad, missed opportunity.

Bards using harps is likely a reference to traditional Final Fantasy Bards that literally always equip Harps (ffxiv is the first exception to that rule lol). A classic guitar might be associated with Bards in other media, but it wouldn’t really relate to a ‘Final Fantasy Bard’ in any way.

Also, Bard’s instruments are almost entirely invisible during battle anyway lol, since you should immediately be clipping them with procs between GCDs, which interrupts the animations (i.e knocking and aiming and arrow while mid-pirouette during flute songs). You could just never do a double oGCD to always see the full animation lol, but I don’t think that’s very wise on a high APM job lol. Even if it did get a classic guitar it’s not like you’d ever get to see it besides the 0.5 seconds you pull one out, every 30-45 seconds lol

I have the feeling that Bard becomes the Poster Job of 7.0

Why can’t this happen? For 7.0 can’t they take the base archer job and then split it at 30 for two options: ranger physical dps and bard magical dps.

Ranger can keep the bows and abilities and weapon skills and maybe get a pet as a new mechanic while the bard gets all the songs and a harp as a weapon.

This way we get a whole new magical dps class and a new ranger class w a pet!
