I have been out of the game for a few months. I'm back and I'm looking to relocate my house to Ishgard. There's plenty of housing available, but when I click the placard, it reads that it's unavailable for purchase. It explicitly states that it's available for purchase for FCs and private buyers, but unavailable for purchase. What am I missing here? Is there a moratorium on buying houses at the moment?

Welcome to the lotto. It's the retrieval period atm, so no houses are up for bid. I believe the new round starts Tuesday around 9 am (CST).

Thanks for clearing that up. I haven't tried to relocate since the lotto system happened, so I didn't know they had this awkward "stock piling" period.

It's a five-day entry period and four-day results period, so each lotto cycle is nine days. The current results period will end on the 24th, which is also when the next entry period will begin.

Honestly - I feel the net gain of the current Lotto system "window" is WAY too big. So your afflicting a week of waiting on someone for essentially a random chance; I question how much "I need a week to bid" is a issue; I mean 2 days to bid and 2 days to claim seems more realistic. I understand people might be on vacation - but the current system really just does the same thing - if you cannot spare like 10 mins in 2 days; the logic that you can in 5 days seems just as slim unless its such a non-concern of yours that really; I don't think the system is to appeal to you anyways.

The 10 day cycle only increases the anxiety and frustration by making you wait even longer to try again after you lose.

Ouch, you just missed the first lottery round for the big addition of 5 new wards. It would have been the best possible chance to relocate. However, you may still have a decent chance. It looks like there will be over 150 Ishgard houses available to personal buyers on Behemoth. If you are going for a FC house, you can probably still get one without competition in the FC only wards.

Wards 1-6 and 25 are FC only
Wards 7-20 and 26-29 are Free for all. When bidding in these wards you will be presented with a choice of bidding for yourself or behalf of a FC. Make sure to pick the appropriate choice!
Wards 21-24 and 30 are private buyer only

The next bidding round starts in a few hours. Don't rush your bid. The bidding period lasts for 5 days. If you want to maximize your chances, wait a few days and see how the bids are stacking up on the houses. That way you can at least dodge some landmines that get a ton of bids early on.

When you bid, it will ask for a deposit of the full purchase price. Make absolutely sure that you are at the proper plot and that you are bidding on behalf of the appropriate entity (personal or FC). Once your bid is placed, there are no takebacks. You cannot cancel it, and a GM cannot cancel it for you if you messed up. So take your time. There is no prize for speedrunning your bid. At the end of the 5th day of bidding it is results time. Go back to the placard and either finalize your new purchase if you won or collect a full refund if you lost. If you forgot what plot you bid on, you can see your lottery entry under Duty -> Timers -> Estate

Agreed. The results period and the actual "you can bid now" period should be much shorter so we can reroll more often. If the odds are destined to be terrible, at least let us try them more than, what, once a week?

Not everyone is able to log in daily. The extended lottery period is to give players a reasonable chance to both bid and claim regardless of their real life schedules and ability to play.
