Do we have any idea if/when the ff15 event is coming back?

Why are people so certain it is unlikely? The event has been re-run multiple times now, as has the FFXI event. The outfits have never been transferred to the online shop like the FFXIII gear was. There's no good reason to think it isn't going to be run again eventually.

The event had a substantial number of quests with cutscenes and fun special mechanics, they aren't going to put that content in the bin forever. People were sure Garo was never coming back as well.

It will be back but probably with a decent gap so I wouldn't expect it until at least mid or late 7.X

not sure if you're agreeing with them or not..,
but I agree with the 7.x Series, since it's likely to be then, the last time or one of the last times they'll return as of they decide to never(ever) make new races. then all the races would have a chance.

me personally, I wish most of these things were set up for permanence. there really isn't much to remove.(specially for Garo, but of course such things are tied. just like Yokai watch.)

Garo is totally different – it wasn't a special quest event, it was in the game for years, and then was removed due to the licence expiring. There was no precedent for it coming back. It turned out that they brought it back after all, but we (and probably the devs) had no guarantee of it.

The short-run "other Final Fantasy" events aren't in the same boat. We've seen them come back over and over, and there's no reason to identify the previous run as the final chance.

They already did it 2 times. Not getting my hopes up for a 3rd time.

It seems a lot of people are forgetting the FFXI event and maybe not everyone here has been around long enough to know about it, but the FFXI event has been run multiple times and so has Breaking Brick Mountains. Both are crossovers, but they are usually years apart. The FFXV event would most likely be just as rare as these, but because of the extremely high demand, they will probably bring it back more frequently. They did once, after all.

Breaking Brick Mountains ran in 2014, 2017, 2020 and 2021.
The FFXI event ran in 2015, 2017, 2020 and 2022.

Judging by these, they are even bring these two back more frequently as well.

The FFXV event ran in 2019 and 2021 and both of these were shortly before an expansion release, so let's make a guess and say early to mid 2024 ahead of 7.0 release.

next expansion then in 7.0. it'll go on mogstation when we get the inevitable FFXVI event

There were two FFXI events. The Iroha event (The Maiden's Rhapsody) has been rerun twice, but the one with Shantotto never came back.

The only real indication of whether an event that doesn't involve an outside license might come back is if the rewards end up on the cash shop. If they do, like the Shantotto minion, it ain't coming back.

Really just boils down to player demand, actual live player counts and content lulls. If the devs see a slump in the late-expansion cycle and want to boost numbers, it’s easy to dangle a rare carrot and better the player base doesn’t see it as something that will regularly return.

Sorry maybe I was a bit unclear, I agree it will come back, I was just using the Garo event as an example where the players swore on their souls it would never return but yet the devs made it happen. The internal SE/FF events will always come back.
