I'm mainly speaking about in the entertainment media. Japanese company's very commonly use stereotypes that some would say is offensive. Just look at how black people are in anime.

True, there’s a lot of stereotyping, west has stopped it in last decade or 2, may be Japanese media will catch up soon, Apu caricatures should be past.
