POL was awful. Good riddance.
wow you just bring me some real good memories my friends. I doubt that FFXIV will ever be close as FFXI. No other game gave me so many GOOD and Unique Gaming Experience than XI. My best moment in the video starts at 6:15

I know this really doesn't have anything to do with the topic of music but I came across this video. Its from the WotG expansion. I wasn't around long enough on XI to complete and this video really makes me sad I didn't get to.

(It has WotG spoilers for anyone that is still playing/planning to finish it)
Well, IMO, all city music was better in FFXI. Even the music from the past was done brilliantly as it conveys a sense of nostalgia, at least to me. Windurst, San d'Oria, Bastok, Selbina, Mhaura, Norg... every place had its music and it fit the lore and the atmosphere of the place. Not even going to mention area music such as Zi'tah, Ronfaure Al'Taieu... they're all just brilliant. Like I said before, the vana'diel marches are also great.
Overall, I believe the atmosphere was so much better in FFXI and the score played a brilliant part in it. I mean, Limsa's theme sounds like a main title music. I don't even remember Gridania's theme, and Ul'dah just sounds pretty generic. I just don't see that they have that uniquess to them that made FFXI's music amazing.

We'll take it into consideration.™
I feel that some of the original music in FFXIV was not as memorable as, say, Ronfarue or Zi'tah, but music that was added in later, such as the second thanalan, black shroud, and la noscea themes were all much more memorable. Plus the boss music, and even some of the leve music were pretty good.Well, IMO, all city music was better in FFXI. However, nothing, and I mean nothing, will ever beat being from Windurst, running to Mhuara to take a ship to Selbina, and hearing Selbina's music for the first time.
Selbina <- amazing feeling of accomplishment and happiness.
Gungnir, gugnir, gungir, Odin's weapon.
Yeah, I'm thinking you only played Vanilla FFXI and never got into any of the expansions, while yeah musical taste is purely opinion, there's a reason SE themselves said they're remastering the music for 2.0 and Nobuo himself said he wish he could remake a lot of the music.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sag9hIVICM - This has yet to be beat by anything in FFXIV.

So yeah, XIV has nice music in some instances, but XI's music just has so much more life to it. As for the topic, the one thing I hoped XIV copied from XI was the login screen, especially given that instead of POL interface (which wasn't bad, as the only reason people had problems with it was because in America you only had Tetra Master and XI to login to, so they hated wasting precious seconds /rolleyes) you log into a SE login then XIV..they could easily throw in videos of zone flythroughs like XI.
Maybe they have it in store for 2.0's client, but sadly given how generic all MMO login interfaces are, lets hope they try to stand out rather than simply fit in.
A thread cerebrating what FFXI did right and could be brought into this new game that isn't being dosed in a tempest of radiant hellfire of bitching?
Color me surprised.
I don't know what is off about FFXIV's music but so much of it just lacks that... zing. There are some gems though. Granted this is pretty close to chest with the old Movtopolis theme but still a nice piece.

That would be awesome.
I want a screen where dalmund is falling and you can see people and villages from dalmund's POV
That's like what nearly every artist on earth would say about his own work.Nobuo himself said he wish he could remake a lot of the music.
