    Gears coming out too fast?

Remember in FFXI when gear would last from Zilart until Abbyssea expansions? Or at least the majority of it anyways. it still had valuable stats, yet needed for certain battles. Why do I feel no need to keep collecting gear when new 10x better gear comes out the next patch?
Anyone else feel the gear is coming out too fast? It's not having any staying power.

One of the things I hate so much about wow was level caps raised too fast, and the gear was replaced so frequently. Makes you not even wanna do the content that's out cause it's not rewarding enough. Maybe I'm alone...

This is a plea to maybe get some support and have some better gear that last longer. I'm tired of spending 1-4M gil just to buy a piece that's obsolete next patch.

    I'm not that rich.

They are throwing us peanuts and hoping we keep busy enough chasing temporary best weapon and gear upgrades that sidegrade each other or just barely beat out the last rendition.

I hope it is just a stop gap measure for real content while they slave away on the big 2.0

This is what PLers actually believe. May Altana have mercy on our souls...

We're currently playing in the development period, so FFXIV is adding loads of "to do" content at an incredible rate compared to most MMOs (at least since 1.18 anyway). That's why current players feel they are dropping loads of gil on equipment. The market is changing so fast and furious that it hasn't had time to calm down and balance.

2.0 Should create a general sense of proper tiers of gear I think. At least I hope so.

I think you might be right. I say this too cause I remember SE making comments about too much GIl. This is a way to get people to spend it but in reality it just goes to the rich. Rich get rich, poor get poorer.

I'm gonna keep playing. Just not happy with how my time is spent in general. I can't force myself to gather end game gear to know it's gonna be garbage in 2 months.

That's why I'm currently not rushing out to buy gear, I gather my own or share mats with my LS mates. The content is shifting so fast because SE is working on a master plan.

I honestly think they are setting up a case like FFXI where we'll be holding at level 50 for a while. This will create beginner, intermediate and expert level 50 gear. Each is based on time to acquire/gil to purchase and determined by the community, as well as SE. (as to which is which). For example Darkhold gear being a lower tier level 50, Cobalt gear being higher, darksteel being higher still. Each require different time/gil requirements, but all are available to everyone. This creates progression without increasing the level cap.

I could be way off, but its an observation I've come across.

Not that I'm advocating the return of this system, but in FFXI you could gear swap. That made a lot of gear useful for a long long time.

This game is based more on a "replace what I have and get rid of my old crap" system.

I think there are some positives to having multiple pieces of gear at a given level. It allows players to choose equipment to match their play style. Some people go for high weaponskills, some go for high attack, others go for high critical hits, or even magic damage based gear. Giving people options is a good thing, as long as "gearswap" does not return. I'm a fan of "gear sickness" for that reason.

That's not exactly true. I know a few people who blew millions on gear, possibly cutting their gil in half in the process. So the rich are getting poorer too.

Nobody's stopping you from mining hq ores, crafting CS weapons, SBing gear, etc, etc. You can get very rich very easily if you put some time and effort into it.

Just did what i use to do in FFXI, sell as much of that soon to be obsolete gear now, for the millions of gil and then when it /is/ obsolete but you need it or something like it to earn the next tier of gear, just buy it back for pennies. ^_^

I think it's the carrot that SE is using to keep min-maxers occupied 'til 2.0.

I think once they have a complete/stable game for everyone to enjoy we'll see more side-grade gear instead of upgrade gear.

Whether it's through materia or gear drops, i'm sure there is a better idea for gear progression in 2.0
