6.3 Expert Recipes and Craftsmanship threshold tests

First, let's make this clear. The 6.3 Expert Recipes are only for making the Small Water Otter Fountain, and so far the fountain has been proven to be a poor seller. I was lucky to have sold 2, but now I can't even get a 3rd one to sell.

That said, for science sake, I decided to do more testing on these 6.3 Expert Recipes, and to find out what the best stats and melds are for them.

Below are the test results (after food & med):

Below are my stats (without food or med):

Below are my melds on left and right gear:

These are the food & med I use:

...as I am using a CP+Control food, my Craftsmanship is the same before and after food.

Clearly, 4122 Craftsmanship appears to be a good level. However this is NOT a must, because:
    (1) It depends on whether you're using MusMem or Reflect opener,
    (2) The new 6.3 Expert Recipes are NOT as hard as the 6.2 ones. They added back Pliant, which made it significantly easier. So even without that high craftsmanship, you can still do it. It's probably going to be 1 extra naked Rapid Syn you need (which you can just aim at a Centered condition).

Generally-speaking, these 6.3 Expert Recipes are much easier than the 6.2 ones. I can achieve about 80% success rate instead of the 50-60% for the 6.2 ones a few months ago).

The Pure Aqueous Glioaether is the limiting reagent for the fountain. If you'd like to make a fountain for yourself, and would like to farm your own glioaether to conserve gil, feel free to visit my recent thread on the DoL forum:

Pliant makes these much easier. There is more wiggle room for RNG not in your favor if you wind up landing any of the durability saving/increasing abilities on a Pliant. With the two non-resin pieces, if RS doesn't work out, I just trash it and start over. The cost is so minimal. I might try a bit more on the resin due to the glioaether cost.

Just like the previous expert recipes, I find that Muscle Memory is the way to go. You know awfully quick if you are facing an uphill battle to finish the synth with enough quality.

Another thing that I find works a lot more often this time around, in part because we have more CP to work with given that a successful synth usually requires some Pliants anyway - is that when things line up "just right" - which can happen pretty often, once I'm at 10 IQ, if a primed shows - I put Innovation and then do 2 rounds of Basic-Standard-Advanced. That nets me nearly 6000 quality in exchange for 60 durability (not counting sturdies) and 126 CP with no RNG in that 6 step segment.

This isn't anything earth shattering, but usually late in the synth, I'm looking for the canned finish. Something that I know works. If I recall, we need something like 13000 quality before GS/Innovation/BB in order to hit the threshold without a Good to help us get there. As I get late in the synth, I wind up doing the math backwards and sometimes it adds up. If primed doesn't show up, it costs an extra 18 CP to pop Inn a second time. Not ideal, but it can work.

Given this new gear, the success rate on the parts is really high. I've spent more time making these fountains than I care to admit. After the first fountain, I'd say the success rate on the parts is upwards of 80%. And the time spent isn't bad if you ditch synths that start off with bad RNG and cut those losses.

I'm not too surprised these are easier. That leaves room for difficulty increases for any Expert recipes introduced in 6.4 and 6.5 since there won't be any more DoH gear upgrades this expansion other than the final version of the relic tool that won't be available until 6.5.

I just wish we had more selection in items to make. SE seems to be staking Expert crafting around a single marketable item each patch, and for this patch it's not generating the interest needed to be worth pursuing.

I concur. With very few items to make with expert recipes that have value to sell, it makes it a really niche market. At least expert recipes during Firmament's heyday had indirect value (Kupo of Fortune, more scrips, points, titles, etc). There really isn't that much to discuss with these expert recipes because the market is so limited.

This is the first time for since playing the game and reaching max level that I just haven't bothered to make the new DoH/L set. What's the point? As long as I get it done before 6.4 I'm good I guess.

Frankly, if you wait until about 1-2 months before the 6.4 patch, you'll probably find the cost of materials and materia at their nadir before another jump after patch 6.4 when there are recipes that actually require this gear.

Thinking about it now, I wonder if they opted to put in these water otter fountain expert recipes since a complaint I always had was that when the X.3 patch came out, there was no need to rush to make the new crafting gear. By adding those recipes, they do provide a reason - just not a great reason.
