I tested this against Ifrit and Brittlebark boars.

    Wep: Garuda's Beak

    Set 1:
    DL Helm
    GC Tabard
    DL gauntlets
    Explorer's Belt
    AF Legs
    Explorer's Breeches

    Set 2:
    DL Helm
    Explorer's Tabard
    STR+42 Gloves
    Explorer's Belt
    AF Legs
    Explorer's Breeches

    Set 3:
    AF Helm
    Explorer's Tabard
    Str +42 Gloves
    Explorer's Belt
    AF Legs
    Explorer's Breeches

Set 1: High AA - Mid WS
Set 2: Mid AA - High WS
Set 3: Low AA - High WS - Massive Crit (so far highest was 872 on Ifrit with Blood for blood and blindside)

For normal mobs I use set 2, set 3 when uber DD is needed. DL Gauntlets don't really do much unless you use it with STR/PIE capped already which I think would be very difficult to achieve. Looks damn awesome though. I use Set 1 and 2 (repalce af pieces) with my DD war too.

Unlike XI, XIV is considerably more "skill" based. In other words it involves more reflex and movement rather than being stationed in one position. Stats complement skill. You can out-parse someone with Darklight and Garuda pieces just based on being more skilled and effective in the way you manage your abilities and spells.

    Tl;dr
Mad and bitter because I don't own a single piece of Darklight yet

For DRG and MNK I would suggest a double/trip meld Crit. body over the Corselet. For BRD though, Corselet is still the best body piece since stat caps are ezpz to reach with other pieces. Also, due to Light Shot recast hotfix, the extra TP helps a lot.

Boots are still best for BRD, Eyepatch is best for MNK/DRG for a full Crit. setup, Bracers aren't that great for DRG anymore since you don't need as much ACC, so trip. meld ATK Bracers would be preferable. Caligae for DRG/MNK is still best for Crit. set up...

The pieces are all very good, it's not like they're bad now, or anything. They're just in place so we have a choice between what's dropped and what we're able to have melded. And depending on what sort of set up you want (a lot of people don't necessarily go FULL Crit., for example), you may or may not want some pieces.

Would much rather spend some gil to make my own 120+ Tunic than have to run to the GC and pay every 3 hours.

So what do you want to point out in this thread? To say that DL is better? or to say that GC mix is better?

Heavy Darklight Gauntlets are the best gloves for tank, so not a big deal.
For War regular Darklight Gauntlets are better.

I notice alot of people bashing on DL gear, but no one is really examining DL gear in detail, that being said I am only going to make 1 comparison that I noticed someone else make but I think did not do it justice.

So you've got a double melded STR glove for your war? Grats. The highest you could possibly get would be +40 with a double meld. Not a bad number, not bad at all.

Now let's look at Darklight Gauntlets for war. +9 str +25 vit +50 attackpower. Not bad, not bad.
BUT ASH IT DOESNT HAVE +40STRZOMGSTATCAP!
True, true. But lets look at the piece as a whole.
+9 str, thats basically a higher end Tier 2 STR materia, so thats 1 meld.
+25 vitality, thats basically 2 low-mid end Tier 3 VIT materia, so thats 2 melds.
+50 attack power, thats basically 2 low-mid end Tier 4 Attack materia, so thats 2 melds.
Now right here we have 5 melds that you would need to get this gears stats.

But Ash thats still not +40 str!
Yes yes I know. But lets examine what stats a war needs most. STR, VIT, Attackpower. Pretty much the 3 stats you get on those DL gauntlets.

Now I'm not gonna go do any testing and I'm not gonna pull random numbers out of my ass. But just from looking at the stats in comparison, for overall effectiveness the DL Gauntlets are superior IMO.

A similar comparison can be made of all the war DL pieces I'm sure, but its 5 AM and I'm not in the mood to type much more.
