Also of note, if you look into the lore behind RPR, they did start out as farmhands in the Garlean nation, then became something akin to local watchmen and heroes to the common folk. Hence your class trainer being a Garlean expat. As for gear, that will come, has come to an extent and we can expect more as we get closer to Dawntrail. Wouldn't sweat it, just enjoy the class.
