I'm just glad the side quest infrastructure is in the game and working. I still haven't finished the initial quests since I've been busy at work, but from what I've seen, it looks like they added a few choice quests to make sure the system they implemented works before adding more.

It would be a coding nightmare if they had released hundreds of quests, only to find a bug in the sidequest system where the fix involved modifying each and every one of the quests.

My guess (and that is all it is), is that the quests will get more elaborate as more quests are introduced into the game.

    That's what I'm hoping for!

    I agree !!!!

I think the quests they added are just a taster and a sample, just to kick start the system per se, they've announced that they will be adding to the quest system each and every update from here henceforth.. I daresay that should at least bring some change and a mix to the variation of the TYPES of quests we can actual get.

    Or am I over-assuming??

I definitely think they should look to FFXI for inspiration in their quests. As stated by a few above, many looked at FFXI's quests as pointless and honestly... in terms of progression many were. But what they did was cement the lore into the game.

One quest from XIV stands out to me, the one from the mithra selling drinks in Ul'Dah. She mentions that Thanalan was once a lush forest that overtime became the barren wasteland that it is today. It's lore like this that helps me immerse myself in the game and helps me to suspend my disbelief to make this world of Eorzea so much more believable. *mutters* Unlike the giant-ass squirrels now... /sigh

Anyway, yeah, these first batch of quests were bland and involved killing 8 things... seriously, every quest... 8 mobs?

FFXI had great quests. Many of them even had brief cutscenes that gave it a real cinematic feel. I don't think the devs need to be so afraid of using FFXI as inspiration. I mean... let's face it... they're 50/50 right now. They've had one successful MMO and one... well... let's just call a spade a spade, failure. I know they don't want to make a clone of FFXI but that doesn't mean they can't be inspired by the better things the game did right. Cutscenes and for the majority, I use CoP as my primary example, story they did right.

Don't be afraid to borrow ideas from your successful predecessor, especially when one considers how many of their current players are FFXI vets.

Personally i'd like more quests that end in boss battles, or at least some form of rare enemy fight. More than a few should take place within the surrounding dungeons, giving players a chance to actually explore their surroundings.

There was the one side-quest in Gridania I found where you have to release the power of an elemental on to three camp fires in order to calm it.

It was a nice bit of variation. Good for non-combat classes too.

People can cry about XI quality all they want but point me to ONE quest in XIV that has more interesting story or a cutscene with better music than XIs quests have.

Truth is XI set the bar for quests so high that XIV isn't even trying to aim for the same quality.

was happy to have quests but yeah this kill this many mobs stuff is weaksauce, they already gave us leves that do this. i enjoyed ffxi quests alot, a hole lot, first thing i did when i loged on for ffxi launch (Na,ps2) was run around for hours rpg'ing it up collecting and completing sandy quests. rpg is the keyword and quests are the main part of them. looks like they just put some shit together cause we all yelling at em and they came out worse ...lol less they really spent years and had this ball of shit to give us.
