    Kind of on the opposite bend, myself. I'd like to go back to the initial concept of character level being separate from proficiency ranks with the different martial and magical arts (though still with jobs as more pre-packaged forms for those who don't want to bother with so many options), every weapon choice and loadout getting some use (though differently) out of each primary stat --and, ideally, being able to change weapons in combat (with weapons influencing qualities that in turn influence also the rate at which you acquire related/synergetic skills via those martial art proficiency ranks, and the types of spells you use doing the same for magical arts).

    Rather than tying to pidgeon-hole jobs around templated within a trinity, just let each martial/magical art and job have its own mixture of role-useful capacities. Think more of a pentagon/decagon/etc. graph of strengths, rather than a single fixed role. Acquire and master new martial and magical arts as we like, but with the character itself being the main focus and omni-leveling being more as a sense of horizontal progression with occasional modest dips in strength when trying something we don't yet have the best-fit gear, practice, or synergetic skills for (rather than the repeated isolated vertical progressions of leveling each class/job separately).

    I really enjoyed how FFXI's jobs each had some weird niche it could do, and you literally couldn't do all content with all jobs (this was back when 75 was cap). Horizontal progression was AWESOME feeling, and it was really fun to find weird loopholes certain jobs could take advantage of. It's not quite what you're saying, but you could be any combination of any 2 jobs at any time (2nd was 1/2, so think like a Blackmage 90/Whitemage 45), with almost every ability of either job available. It was awesome, and sometimes made for bizarre meta.

    It would be character customization. A complete overhaul from making all hairstyles and headgear work on all races and adding new faces and tattoo options.

    Rework to make the trinity actually matter. I remember a time where (as a tank) I had to focus hard on my enmity rotation just to keep the boss’ attention if an ally were geared above me. Or, if I was geared well, I could sneak a few dps rotations before needing to build, enmity back up. It was fun having to actually watch and balance the enmity bars. Healers could actually overheat and steal enmity.

    …ahhh the good ‘ol days.
    I remember those days. I'd queue as a tank in 8 player or 24 player duties and watch as the other tanks repeatedly used Provoke to pull the boss off me only to lose enmity to me a few seconds afterwards...

    I also remember main tanking some content as drg at times just because I wanted to actually use the things on my skillbar...

    There was a time where a healer casting regen at the start of the fight would pull hate for like 2 solid rotations… I remember a Whm doing it on LotA behemoth and causing a wipe due to cleaving. Fun times!

    Nah the real fun was keeping medica II up full time and ppl wondering why the boss keeps running off towards the WHM lol
