The rising event "The calamity retold" but in 2023 for 10th anniversary

If you guys know about the rising event back in 2018, the event is about retelling what happened in ul'dah during the 7th umbral era calamity in 1.0.

    The Event : https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...18/The_Rising/
    video : https://youtu.be/PAEEs_DTa8k

I'd love it if they did that. I've watched the Youtube "documentary" about 1.0 and despite all of it's flaws I'd really love to experience that story-line, or key parts of it. I did wonder at one point if the devs were going to do a "return to the past" style expansion similar to how FFXI did where the WoL returns to the time around 1.0 but it's part of a different story-arc to prevent something else from happening at that time (i.e. something/ someone goes back in time to ensure Bahamut succeeds in wiping out the planet and the WoL has to stop them whilst also avoiding their past self).

It might have been great nostalgia for the 1.0 players, but I don't remember feeling like it was anything special for me. Just fight some monsters in a giant rush, then it was over.

The only potential excitement for a repeat would be which rare items might come back, if the player response to the non-replicas last time hasn't scared the devs off. Perhaps we could finally get a chance at replicas of the old pre-order earrings or something.

That event was so cool. Maybe my favorite.

Ah, I can see that. The nostalgia was nice for people who played before the dalamud calamity. My game account is a bit older than my forum join date so I got to play that crazy period in 2012 when voidal enemies were invading sanctuaries and eventually a massive attack inside Ul'dah. It's the excitement of stuff that could never normally happen is now happening, one time only, a literally world-changing event to destroy the old game.

Whilst I definitely like the idea, this anniversary is to celebrate a decade since the 'A Realm Reborn' relaunch and I suspect they'll focus on that moreso than the 13th anniversary (1.0) of the game as whole.

Focusing on A Realm Reborn more than 1.0 for the 10th anniversary makes sense, but I'll admit I've wanted something that lets us go through some form of the 1.0 story ourselves for... well, a decent while. I didn't start playing until Shadowbringers, so there's no nostalgia; just wanting to have some ability to 'experience' that storyline, even if a more summarized/condensed version.

I'll admit I don't really expect anything like that, and at most we'd probably just get a direct rerun of the 2018 Rising event if something like that did happen (which I also wasn't around for, so can't speak to it), but I definitely like the idea of getting some version of 1.0 to experience in-game.

Never forget the great gobbue wall of Ul'dah! *solemn salute*

(Also, always nice to see someone else who never bothered to make a forum account for years and years! Though this particular account dates to the ARR beta, because I misplaced my 1.x account's password until like... early 2021, and though I have since rediscovered it I cannot be arsed to re-sub on a second account.)

It's worth keeping in mind that the vast majority of the 1.x storyline was, uh... let's go with "not a pinnacle of narrative form". There were absolutely some neat bits, some of which were enough to keep people stubbornly playing, sure. (Hi, I'm people.)

But... if I'm honest, most bits of the 1.x storyline that I'm nostalgic for are because of how the devs have used it in ARR-or-later content.

    An example, looking at Shadowbringers...

In 1.x, Vesper Bay was little more than a ferry dock to let you get more quickly to that part of Thanalan. The Path of the Twelve -- one of the two precursors to the Scions, the organization which studied the Echo and so needed to be secretive -- had their headquarters, the original Waking Sands, hidden in Ul'dah as a result. When the surviving bits of the Path of the Twelve and Louisoix's Circle of Knowing formed into the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, the Waking Sands was relocated to the newly-built Vesper Bay.

Anyway, we get to the First... and it's clear that Norvrandt is the pre-Calamity map of Eorzea, albeit scaled way down. Obviously, Amh Araeng is the First's equivalent to the northern chunks of Thanalan... and the remains of Nabaath Araeng are the equivalent to Ul'dah. So when we meet Minfilia's spirit there in the ruins of Nabaath Araeng, we are meeting her where the original Waking Sands were.

Thus, in essence, we "pray return to the Waking Sands" one final time -- to the place where it all began, symbolically, back in 1.x -- to bid our farewell to Minfilia.

Anywhere that I find value in the 1.x story at this point, it's almost always tiny little details like that. And a broad summarized form of the 1.x storyline would largely not actually give people those little details. Sure, they'd get some, but... I'm just not sure there'd be much benefit to it compared to just watching the YouTube videos or reading the 1.x MSQ summaries you can find on the web.

I feel like the dev time is better spent moving forward as a result, rather than looking back.

I'd be for it. If I remember it was a good source for XP for leveling alt jobs. I think it has some rewards too...most of them being consumable emotes. I hate consumable emotes. Just make it a permanent you might have to grind a little for rather then "Good job. You can do a firework 5 times".
