(Also, always nice to see someone else who never bothered to make a forum account for years and years! Though this particular account dates to the ARR beta, because I misplaced my 1.x account's password until like... early 2021, and though I have since rediscovered it I cannot be arsed to re-sub on a second account.)

It's worth keeping in mind that the vast majority of the 1.x storyline was, uh... let's go with "not a pinnacle of narrative form". There were absolutely some neat bits, some of which were enough to keep people stubbornly playing, sure. (Hi, I'm people.)
But... if I'm honest, most bits of the 1.x storyline that I'm nostalgic for are because of how the devs have used it in ARR-or-later content.
An example, looking at Shadowbringers...
In 1.x, Vesper Bay was little more than a ferry dock to let you get more quickly to that part of Thanalan. The Path of the Twelve -- one of the two precursors to the Scions, the organization which studied the Echo and so needed to be secretive -- had their headquarters, the original Waking Sands, hidden in Ul'dah as a result. When the surviving bits of the Path of the Twelve and Louisoix's Circle of Knowing formed into the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, the Waking Sands was relocated to the newly-built Vesper Bay.
Anyway, we get to the First... and it's clear that Norvrandt is the pre-Calamity map of Eorzea, albeit scaled way down. Obviously, Amh Araeng is the First's equivalent to the northern chunks of Thanalan... and the remains of Nabaath Araeng are the equivalent to Ul'dah. So when we meet Minfilia's spirit there in the ruins of Nabaath Araeng, we are meeting her where the original Waking Sands were.
Thus, in essence, we "pray return to the Waking Sands" one final time -- to the place where it all began, symbolically, back in 1.x -- to bid our farewell to Minfilia.
Anywhere that I find value in the 1.x story at this point, it's almost always tiny little details like that. And a broad summarized form of the 1.x storyline would largely not actually give people those little details. Sure, they'd get some, but... I'm just not sure there'd be much benefit to it compared to just watching the YouTube videos or reading the 1.x MSQ summaries you can find on the web.
I feel like the dev time is better spent moving forward as a result, rather than looking back.
