That's the thing - I wouldn't say I was struggling, not in that instance anyway. I mean, it was a levelling roulette, not high level content. I was contributing and doing the best I could in a job I'm new to and was hardly stood out of range or throwing disparaging remarks around.

Thank you! Considering my anxiety was so bad, I'm surprised it took so little to change it.

I was always afraid of messing up and letting everyone down, but now I've just come to the conclusion that we all make mistakes and, in casual content at least, most aren't paying much attention to what I'm doing anyway! Especially when playing as DPS - then I'm more interested in just completing mechanics and where I am on the enmity list, I'm not really watching whether the Dragoon has backflipped off the edge of the arena again, whether the Bard has died to the same mechanic they did earlier, or whether the Ninja beside me has a rabbit on their head (All of which I've done, but lets not talk about that... )

And most content is so out-levelled now that most mistakes are easily remedied anyway. There may be the occasional less patient player who makes a big issue out of nothing but they seem to be few and far between. The community here is very kind compared to other games I've played in the past.

That dragoon was just tanking the floor again :P Nothing to see here

I think the last trial I did was one that definitely added to my general anxiety of playing with others. After each sprout had died; instead of rezing a single person; the high level players ignored us all and beat the boss. It's not fun to watch a boss fight from the floor and its crap behaviour that makes the community look really bad.

If you got kicked from a leveling roulette you must’ve been doing nearly afk levels of dps. No one kicks from that for poor performance, it has to be abysmal. Be honest what else were you doing at the time? I’m game or out.

Yeah, I've seen this kind of zip zip zip "we can do it alone don't need the others" way too often. It was especially bad in MSQ roulette before the revamp, where you'd sometimes get 3 or so people all skip the cutscenes together (via disconnect exploits, against the TOS but most people were apathetic enough or even appreciated the free carry that it was basically never reported) and then bam out all the last bosses while the rest of us were helplessly stuck in unskippable cutscene land forced to just sit and be carried whether we wanted to or not ...

On the other hand, I do have to wonder if not rezzing is a behavior that carries over from WoW and dies hard (as battle rezzes were very precious in WoW - think the way it is in BA or DR Savage - and thus most of the time when you hit the floor, that was that, you were hors de combat)?

On the other other hand, tanks that insist on trying to solo the trial boss from 50% after everyone else is dead are just being stubborn ostriches. At that point, really, just wipe it (which is one thing that def doesn't carry over from WoW: nobody ever seems to "call a wipe" here even when it's clearly obvious, everyone insists on fighting on to the last breath outside of maybe some statics).

Could people have thought they could sneak in a friend at the end by abusing votekick? It was a thing all the time in WoW (and all the more vexing there, because WoW actually gives you the leaver penalty for being involuntarily kicked ... it's mostly killed off queued content there outside of alt leveling speedruns and full premades) and it seems like the culture has been seeping in steadily since The Lawsuit and the EW player explosion ...

(And in that light, quite many MMOs have the problem of expecting speedrun performance to the point that first timers and casuals get short shrift. Remember ESO's early days? Unlock dungeon, queue in, get kicked so fast for undergearedness, that the load screen literally took you back to the world without even seeing the dungeon at all)

This is not a WoW issue or people from WoW causing this.

I have some colour blindness, which makes quite a few facets of the game quite tedious to play. Honestly, I generally do follow the principle of 'try everything once', and I have, that which I cannot play I just don't do.

Like, I've tried raiding in the past since taking a long break from it, and I was unfortunate enough that my first experience back with it was Eden's Verse, seeing how they designed certain parts of those encounters, just made me steer pretty clear from that content. I won't say it's impossible, but I just found it to be a thoroughly unenjoyable experience.

As for what I do, I just simply don't play that facet of the game. I find enough enjoyment in other areas of the game that I just focus on those. e.g., achievement hunting, relics, story, crafting, gathering.

Even though I main healer, I never go as a healer to learn new content, especially without learning the mechanics throughly before; first I learn it on a dps and then I give healing a proper try.
I am the exact opposite when it comes to doing new content. I want to do it as a healer because if I screw up I can just fix myself up. I find the game to be REALLY good at introducing new mechanics. If I see people running to a specific spot I just follow them. However if I was doing raid type of content I would do it like you and pick DPS and also look up a guide beforehand.

I feel like this is a popular forum myth that I have never actually seen happen in my five years of playing. I myself have been given friendly advice and pointers on a number of jobs in DF and no one has ever gotten kicked or berated for it. I've had tanks point out that I needed to keep Enochian up when I was still learning BLM back in the day, to keep Death's Design up on the target when I was learning RPR. Other players told me to trust my HoTs more when I was learning AST because I was overhealing too much, and various people helped me on mechanics that I was messing up on. And all of it was a huge help.

I mean, if you're a jerk about it then yeah, you'll likely get reported. And I have found that a lot of people legit don't know the difference between "Hey RPR make sure you're keeping debuff up, big DPS boost," and "Jesus what's up with your DPS dude???"

    And that's not an exaggeration.
