So I do think previous experience can have something to do with tolerance levels of those who may be less than perfect at things.
On the flip side, there used to be - not sure about EQ, because I missed that era of MMOs due to not having DOCSIS until 2004, so mostly stuck to Diablo II - more tolerance for failure among more players.

Heck, even Diablo II Hardcore players were often less risk averse, and that's a mode where dying literally means you have to start over with a brand new character.

Nowadays you can often try again in only 10 minutes, but even then, people are still fixated on getting everything right the first time to the detriment of the overall community. (And let's not even start with things where there's an actual cost to failure, or even to helping someone else who's on a different progression stage to you ... Horrific Visions had SO much potential, but the entry system utterly crippled it, especially when you were EXPECTED by the community there to have every possible upgrade or be passed over for someone who did)

It seems like it's a general malaise with modern humanity though, and I'm really not sure what triggered it so hard, as it seems to have gone into high and accelerated gear for a few years now. Fun and taking your time to be deprecated, in favor of squeezing everything possible out of everything possible, and settle for what might as well be dopamine injections instead of healthy enjoyment ...
