If you seek out practice parties, those people will be more forgiving because they're also making sure they know what they're doing. We all start there and if you start early with these duties when they come out, there's even more leeway given as everyone is on the same level.

The problem that arises a lot of the time is people aren't totally honest about where they are in progression. This frustrates others and occasionally they might have a few words to say about one's performance. Those people then have to watch what they say for fear of being reported, so they'll probably just up and leave instead.

People shouldn't hesitate to ask questions. The worst case for that is you might be asked to try another party, but that open discussion before things get rolling will ease a lot of pain.
