I enjoyed Dynamis; I enjoyed Sky and Sea. Hell, I even enjoyed the few times I went camping ground-kings. I also enjoyed Salvage even though I eventually quit because I knew I needed to focus on my job leveling. For whatever reason, the only instance in FFXIV I've enjoyed has been CC, but even that I don't enjoy much. Why? Because they are all obvious spam runs and fillers. If it doesn't change in 2.0 (I'm not even talking about drop rates myself, which I consider to be secondary to content), well I can't say I'll be able to stick around for long.

Where as in XIV you have to grind the same dungeon over and over and over for a very very slim chance at a piece of gear. Same with the primals, its just the same thing over and over and over. I don't want to spend my entire night doing Garuda for a small chance at a weapon.

It just doesn't seem "casual" player friendly to me.
Casual content should be seperate. A casual player shouldn't be able to have access to everything at anytime. that makes the game too easy and boring. that's one reason i stopped playing SWTOR and never liked WoW. no challenge whatsoever.

having to work for the best gear is what makes it so rewarding. in XI i knew i'd never get Excaliber or Aegis for my pld. but i could still be incredibly competitive as a main tank with the gear available to me. 'god like' gear should be hard to get. if everyone has it, it's not very godlike anymore.

Casual players still have a lot they can do. crafting for one. which i've found fun and captivating. and it's not like casual players don't have access to the primal fights. it's possible to do those casually, but they shouldn't expect to have the same advantage as the hardcore players.

also, in 2.0, looks like we'll have a lot more customization for casual players. housing, chocobo raising, etc.

but back to the real meat of the issue:

to me its an attitude adjustment for the OP. i'm just coming back, but i always felt good when my group beat O/U or Kirin or completed a dynamis run. even when we didn't get a lot of gear. because the challenge was fun. sure we want gear, and for a lot of us that was our main goal. but if you're not feeling sufficient rewarded i'm guessing the primal fight itself isnt' difficult enough.

if i'm having fun, i dont' really care about lock-out timers or drop rates or w/e. i'm playing the game to have fun, not to get gear. if that was my only concern i'm better off playing D3. it doesnt' come with a subscription fee, and that's all you really do: grind for better gear.

Play a Western MMO, where there are around 5 boss fights per raid, each of which drop two pieces of gear a piece, then there's a week long lock out.

The difference with FFXIV is that you have to fight things over and over within the same span of time hoping for a drop, but the lockout timer isn't nearly as long.

I still prefer FFXIV's system. This way you don't "run out" of things to do each week.

This game will need to alienate it's players by defeating them in this manner.
Wait until you've done 300 AC and CC 25 minute runs without a body.

Garuda was PERFECT example. Only reason it is dead now is because the people that decided they wanted to keep doing the exploit when Yoshi said it was "ok". Stupid people kiling their own content... THEY SCREAMED for a challenge and now that they got it, they went with the exploit way. Pathetic. Anyways, back on topic....
Don't blame the ppl that got garuda weapons before patch. Blame the whiners that bichted about it. It happened what I said it would happen. The noobs can't get a group and win it. And the good ls got them and still keep getting it now. You guys have to understand that good ls will always get everything. Easy or har way. The pick up groups had a chance before patch. Now deal with it. Think before bitching about non existent "exploits".

Didn't even bother to read the other posts in the thread just because, as always, I'm sure it's full of an equal amount of both white knighting and trolling. If not, then it will be soon enough.

Just wanted to say that I agree with you, OP. I'm really getting tired of it too. Honestly, with the way things are going I'm debating just ignoring the 1.23 content and waiting for 2.0. All of these RNG focused "challenges" are beyond overkill now. It just isn't fun. Been struggling to log in as of late because of it.

In one of his E3 interviews Yoshi said he was looking into implementing some token type system in 2.0 to allow players to be able to purchase necessary items or equipment so players will make progress regardless of how unlucky they may be. Hopefully that will be the cause with all events so players who are very unfortunate will eventually see the rewards of their labor.

BTW, I believe getting Wyrmal Leg Abjurations from Kirin was even worse than DL armor drop rates. :P

Skinner Boxes are the fastest and easiest way to artificially keep someone playing a "game" for a long time, so it's no wonder they would be over-utilizing it to keep people around until 2.0.

If that is the case, hopefully we will see a substantial decrease in pRNG based content in the future (read as 2.0+).
I would say the purpose for frustrating drop rate and steps required is to prevent people playing in 1.0 having too much of a head start in 2.0. In the E3 interviews Yoshi-P mentioned everything (how I read it) in 2.0 including Hamlet will be moving to token systems.
