Depends how long a cooldown is added, how about FFXI style 72hrs for every dungeon, one a day decent drop rates and all content cleared in 2 weeks wondering what to do till the next patch?

SE need to keep players playing and right now with the slimmed down dev team working on 2.0 they can only work so fast and this is a way to pull content out, come 2.0 we shouldn't have this problem.

With how people are talking they want 15min cooldown all drops 100%, then what would you do till the next patch?

It's not so much we want stuff given to us. In XI you could do dynamis, or limbus, sky, sea, etc. You had all these things you could do on a different day but at least that gave sort of a less repetitive feel. Where as in XIV you have to grind the same dungeon over and over and over for a very very slim chance at a piece of gear. Same with the primals, its just the same thing over and over and over. I don't want to spend my entire night doing Garuda for a small chance at a weapon.

It just doesn't seem "casual" player friendly to me.

Heres a thing as well, people complain about drop rates now, what if they were doing CC or AV for one year before they got the gear they want, rather than after a few weeks or a couple of months, btw it took me one year to get my Wyrm Armet some people would wait that long for an Osode, Pimp Hat etc etc people would rage on here because of the drop rates not the overall cooldown.

If I had to choose between:

    A) Running a piece of content once or twice per week (i.e. longer lockouts, higher drop rates) and taking 6 months to get the drops you want; versus

    B) Spamming a piece of content 20 times per week (i.e. shorter/no lockouts, lower drop rates) and taking 6 months to get the drop you want

I'd choose A every time. At least that lets you do other things during your lockout, like other dungeons, crafting, PvP, etc.

every time this topic is raised i think to diablo : every mob, random drop with random stats. I don't know why that system is considered acceptable and this don't.
Regarding quote: leave long lockouts to real endgame please. like crystal tower. A 30 min dungeon (15 with speedruns) every 72 hours it's lame

In Diablo, fighting monsters is literally the entire game. An MMO is much more than that; having actual free time in between dungeon runs to do those other things without falling behind on your drop chances is a good thing in my opinion.

Free time in FFXIV is gtfo I wanna gather/craft/level another craft/quest/get seals/make gil no one is forcing you to spam dungeon or primals. You can have your own personal cool down something like "Guys, I'm sick of dungeons for now imma do something else.

Casual content should be seperate. A casual player shouldn't be able to have access to everything at anytime. that makes the game too easy and boring. that's one reason i stopped playing SWTOR and never liked WoW. no challenge whatsoever.

having to work for the best gear is what makes it so rewarding. in XI i knew i'd never get Excaliber or Aegis for my pld. but i could still be incredibly competitive as a main tank with the gear available to me. 'god like' gear should be hard to get. if everyone has it, it's not very godlike anymore.

Casual players still have a lot they can do. crafting for one. which i've found fun and captivating. and it's not like casual players don't have access to the primal fights. it's possible to do those casually, but they shouldn't expect to have the same advantage as the hardcore players.

also, in 2.0, looks like we'll have a lot more customization for casual players. housing, chocobo raising, etc.

but back to the real meat of the issue:

to me its an attitude adjustment for the OP. i'm just coming back, but i always felt good when my group beat O/U or Kirin or completed a dynamis run. even when we didn't get a lot of gear. because the challenge was fun. sure we want gear, and for a lot of us that was our main goal. but if you're not feeling sufficient rewarded i'm guessing the primal fight itself isnt' difficult enough.

if i'm having fun, i dont' really care about lock-out timers or drop rates or w/e. i'm playing the game to have fun, not to get gear. if that was my only concern i'm better off playing D3. it doesnt' come with a subscription fee, and that's all you really do: grind for better gear.

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, NO!

People seem to forget that not everybody shares the exact same play schedule. If we had timers of 72 hours, and I run a dungeon on Friday with one of my Linkshells, that means I can't run it on Sunday with my other Linkshell.

Also, people need to understand how drop rates work. If they raise the drop rate, but increase the time it takes to enter, you could still go months without any items.

What should happen, is dungeons should have a system like we have with primals. You win the dungeon in under 20 minutes, 50% chance of a token dropping. Turn in X amount of tokens for the piece you want, as well as the items being available like they normally are.
