Fix Portraits

If you ever error (29) just take off an item, Update gear set, Put item back on, Update gear set, Portrait button, Find Job, Edit, Save.

Also, I noticed that upgrading the 610 crafted weapon to 620 bugged hard because they have the "same apperance" but not the "same item" so the game kept flagging that as being a problem. I just did the above by saving the 560 Job weapon (since I had it on me still), saved, put the 620 on, saved, etc.

I'm gonna derail my own post by asking: why was the glamour dresser not applied to retainers? It has been available for squadron members, and yet now we have to reacquire our favorite glams to apply to retainers?? Or am I missing something...

You're missing something. It's likely that they tried using the glamour dresser. It might be the fact that they're not persistent characters like the squadron or there's too much going on while having the retainer open AND using the glamour dresser. There's also the fact that you can't access the dresser everywhere you can access a retainer.

The portrait system is somehow worse than it was back while it was still in BETA.

Back in the beta version, the portrait you set as your instant portrait would automatically update with your glams or with whatever gear you changed out.
Now doing anything at all to your glam or gear completely invalidates your portrait and reverts you to the default unless you 1. Save your current gear set (even if you just changed one glam item or dye), and 2. Modify your portrait just by opening it up and hitting Save without doing anything.
Sure, it may not seem like much work, but it gets tedious extremely quickly having to do that every time.

I haven't seen anyone mention this yet (skimmed replies and didn't click any of the links), but try deleting the gearset and creating a new one.

Fixed it for me. The system is janky and weird, but it was initially designed for PvPers(citation needed), so of course it is.

From my understanding, you don't need to exactly delete the gearset and create a new one. Portraits are linked to the glamour plates, so you have to link your Job to whatever glamour plate you want, and only then the portrait reflects on the new glamour. It's a bit convoluted and honestly, a tad dumb. This means if you have multiple glams for 1 job, you can only link 1 glam plate to said job in order for it to be reflected on the portrait. This wasn't like that in beta.

Omg yes please fix portraits. Just have them stay at the appearance they were set as until we change it manually, it can't be that hard.

For now I've just disabled the feature entirely because its too obnoxious.

Been reading guides and asking people, and every time I think I have it ready, boom! My portrait appears in the default style at the beginning of raids etc. This plays like a bunch of code exploded and we're engaging with pieces of it that are scattered all over the place.

As far as I have experienced, the portraits system breaks when you change something, be a piece of armour, a piece of glamour, a paint in your face, hairs etc.

So I did a couple of things that are helping to keep the breaking at minimum level.
Prerequisites:
1) Be sure to have the Gearset saved.
2) Be sure to have linked to Glamour plate of that gearset to the same. You can do this in the Gearser list > right click in the gearset chosen > Link to a Glamour Plate.
3)Be sure to have the portraits saved for that job

Before queuing:
1) Open your Chara Info, go in your gearset list, check that the preview matches with your currently glamour plate applied
2) Then, hit the voice “reset gearset”. It basically should restore all the glamour in that gearset to the linked one. I think this is a double verification in case maybe you swapped to a glamour plate and something was still saved from the previous one.
3) Go into your portrait, check if you have a yellow triangle or not. In any case hit edit, do a small pan right and left and hit save.

This is what I do before I go in a content.
It’s awful how this system was thought.
Instead of just snap shooting an image of your character SE came with this…. thing.

E no. The “it’s cheaper than having an image for all players in their portraits” excuse isn’t a valid motivation from a multibillion company to develop a broken system that will require MODS to be used in the way it was intended to be.

All i want to know is how do you disable this bad portrait message? I don't use this feature. I've opened the menu up a few times by accident because of were they added it to the main menu but i have never saved or defined anything. I’ve turned off all the options in the main menu they added, but i still get this annoying message to pop up every duty now. I dont really like being bothered by error messages about a feature im not even using or engaging with.

At this rate it isn't even an issue of needing to do x, y, and z to make sure portraits are working. We shouldn't have to do this stuff. It's just too much to do scattered around various interface sections.
