    since so many mods were integrated into xiv, when will double animation lock be gone?

    taken from a reddit post that might help explain why this is an issue:

    if a game like cs go had netcode like xiv, it would result in that players with lower ping would have a faster fire-rate than those of higher ping players. imagine being at 50ms with an r8 and being able to fire 18 shots, whereas if you were playing at 200 ping, you would only be able to fire 14 shots. it works like this:

    press ability -> animation lock occurs -> server confirms pressed that ability -> animation lock + your ping occurs, which is why the game feels the way it does at higher ping. now for those of you who live on the west coast/midwest where their ping isn't quite as severe, i'm glad and happy for you. but for the rest of us in NA who live on the east coast (northeast and southeast US players suffer much much worse).

    there were a few interviews in the past where this was brought up to yoship and he seemed honestly blindsided by it and didn't know what to say beyond "uhh something something packet loss" (i believe this instance i'm describing is from the reddit AMA/q&a) and said they would be looking into it, though, there has not been much on that front in the year and a half since that interview.

    They have gone back and gotten rid of massive animation locks on some skills, so it's mostly just about them alleviating other skills of that.

    Though idk how much of an argument this would be given ping in JP isn't that big an issue.

    Plus if there are any mods worth implementing, it's the one that fixes Hrothgar teeth and posture, ngl

    I don't care about them implementing the damage meter or do stuff with animation lock, but why do we still have this dumb inflexible party list? Why can't we position it horizontally or, god beware, break it up and position the party members how we want, for example into groups of 2x2? Why do we still have this dumb mouseover macro mechanic, where you can't queue up skills? Why can't we color the names of FC members?

    There is so much more QoL stuff that, after 10 years, would make sense to be implemented. But it seems they are working on some of that, seeing as how they finally brought us buff/debuff timers.

    This double animation lock is what makes a few jobs barely playable on high ping. Machinist, dancer and ninja suffer the most under it afaik.

    I think he was blindsided by it because we never complained about it enough. We always just acknowledged it as a problem in conversations as if it was a part of the game that couldn't change, but we didn't really make noise about it. It was only because of Machinist that I saw any sort of proper complaints about this at all.

    Before that, it was a quality of life problem but so were lots of other little quality of life issues a problem that were rarely addressed, such as combos expiring quicker than they do now, or various GCDs interrupting combos, but since Quality of Life is of more interest now maybe this one should be tackled too.

    This isn't an FPS where people need to go to extraordinary lengths to have a reduced ping and reduced monitor and mouse delays, to be fair. But the fact that weaving abilities is a problem at higher pings whereas pressing GCDs is not impacts the experience for people with high pings. If abilities could borrow some of the code from weaponskills/spells, it would probably help.
