The funny thing is that the portraits we use for adventurer plates already function similarly to that, they keep the glamour and even hair the same as when it was made- yet for whatever reason the other portraits don't function this way. Very odd.

Spaghetti code at its finest.
What infuriates me is that I can’t even tell why the stupid plate keeps reverting to default. I’m wearing the exact same gear, on the same job etc. Is it because I’m wearing AF gear? Using a job-specific emote (battle pose / victory)? Is the expression not clear enough, am I not looking at the camera lol.
I’ve even tried literally making my portrait the default pose, default backgrounds etc, no expression or notes. And still if gets reverted to default! So even the goddamn default adventurer plate doesn’t meet their own restrictions, apparently?
Agreed with OP. Beta was clunky and clearly in need of work (I even called an Alpha in Disguise at the time), but this version came out of nowhere. It doesn't agree with anything the game has, and it doesn't make anything intuitive or good to use.
Beta was fine, because you could store whichever plates you wanted and draw from there. The rest was just polish.
But this? This is utter regression. Just to get it to work, you need to make sure so many things in several different menus are aligning just right. And for what? For us to be using a specific glamour on a projected model? The rest is done in-portrait anyway.
This is a cool feature, but it really needed to stew over how they would approach it. Because if Beta was poor to them, and this regressed ruminated version is better, then something doesn't add up. Is it the code? Is it the programmers? Is it the software design itself?
I really, really, really like using positive language when I post here, and I am trying to. I like the idea behind the portrait system. It's good to have individual experience, to really leverage the MMO as a social experience, and there are a lot of fun decorations. The system for posing is reasonably powerful, and simple.
But this is so atrociously bad to use. Despite our feedback, this got shipped out without doing the single, one thing, people asked for.
When I set my portrait, I never want to think about it again.
That's it. Regardless of what gear I have on, whether or not my helmet is hidden, what glam plate I have linked. I never, ever, ever, ever want to have to think about unless I want to change it, because I want to. And worse of all, you decided every gearset should have its own portrait. Why? I have like 40 gearsets for crafters or swimwear or whatever and like most people, I have a handful of jobs I am really into and the rest I respect but don't care for. I rather have like... I don't know, even a single portrait I can guarantee WORKS. Is that too much to ask for? Why is it made this way? This is really, really, really bad. Because now that you made this, every time I load into a duty, I am reminded of the bad system. It would be better to NOT have them there until they work. Now people will forever have a bad taste in their mouth. It's even worse because we all saw that Japanese celebrity telling Yoshi-P he liked the old portrait system, live on stream, and he just brushed his feedback aside.
In my opinion, they got it right the first time around. All they had to do was improve what was already there. Then they just...upended the entire thing and somehow made it worse.
Ah, the delicious salt. It so glorious. I really hate the portrait feature. I just don't want it to be there. Don't care. I don't want to make one. I don't want to have the default one. I just want to have none at all. Put a random plaque with job icon over mine or something. And so... I'm really glad for the current state of it. I hope Square gets burned so hard that they will end up pulling portraits out. Remove and pretend that it never happened. And stop wasting memory allocation and dev time on a useless feature that does nothing but waste 1 minute of my time every PvP game and now just annoys me in PvE too.
Keep the Adventurer plates, those are also useless but at least they are unobtrusive. Portraits can burn.
This is the mystifying part. I set my adventure plate a while back and it still looks exactly how I set it. I would much rather have 1 single picture that works than the option to have a ton of nonfunctional pictures attached to every gearset.
My FC mate was playing IT support last night trying to help people set theirs up. Its so needlessly complicated for what should be the equivalent of a signature.
Dunno if it's been mentiined but I found by just deleting the gear set and them remaking it will make it easier to set your instant portrait. Of course this shouldn't even be a thing in the first place....
