2) I dont immediately buy that someone hates EVERYTHING in a game, that they are willing to be a repeat customer to and provide feedback on whether in a weird, yet funny way of writing it out.



But he isnt sticking around...he is unsubbing and resubbing for a new patch full of story. People do realize you can buy a finite amount of sub time to tourist a new patch then leave until new content right?

Also, what is this headcanon about taking off work to play the game coming from?

I will say the borderline hatred of Y'shtola is comedic.

One thing i had been wondering about plot wise:
If Halone and Menphina are Ice goddess, and their marks are put somewhere related to them and their elements, then Why did they put their marks in Coerthas? Up until 5 years ago it was a warm, lush climate much like La Noscea. lol

Bahamut altered the regions Aether turning them into the frost covered lands we see now.

Coerthas was always cold in winter, even before ARR. 1.0 Coerthas looked like high alpine tundra in the summertime, a mostly barren landscape with some ground cover and small groups of pine trees.

It's just that now it's permanently winter and they're trapped in an ice age.

• I feel that overall the game's trajectory is on a downward spiral.
  
  
• The storytelling made a noticeable shift in ShB, where the storytelling started to feel more "anime" than previously and in EW it really embraced that. And not for the better. I wouldn't consider EW a "dark" expansion either. It felt more juvenile in it's telling than any previous expansion with more tropey themes and predictable characters and predictable storytelling.
  
  
• As for this patch, it was terrible imo. I was actually getting more irate the more I went through the MSQ because there was no entertainment value to it and I felt like my time was being wasted. And this is the first time this has happened outside of ARR fetch quests.
  
  
• The new alliance raid isn't too bad. I always like doing the alliance raids so I'm a bit biased in this aspect. But Menphina doesn't seem to fit the theme. Nor her theme song. Instead of ancient god/goddess theme she's more like a magical girl anime trope. I don't hate it but it's whatever to me and just reinforces the whole anime storytelling approach they've seemed to adopted (which I don't care for.)
  
  
• The new 4 man has more rehashed and undyeable gear. Cheap, lazy and unneeded.
  
  
• Portraits are still a shit show. The UI continues to get more and more disjointed and terrible to navigate through and use, just like their piss poor inventory and glamour system.
  
  
• Casters/healers still get robes after years of complaints. This is probably one of the easiest things they could have done to appease players. Just throw them gear that isn't a robe here and there. It's not that much to ask.
  
  
  I could go on and on...
  At this point, it's painfully obvious that the design/dev teams don't know how to plan for future scalability and additions. If anything, I'm more amazed that this game is even playable because of how much spaghetti code it's built on.
  
  For a while now, I've been thinking of quitting. I've cut back on my play time and the only thing that's brought me back are friends. Or sometimes I just like to log in to look at my avatar but other than that, I find myself caring less and less for the game and the direction it's taking.

Likewise. By comparison, those that came after Maehiro seem to have either benefited from luck and coincidence (Shadowbringers) and consequently failed upwards resulting in the spectacular disaster that was Endwalker's base MSQ, where we fought the 500 year old little girl of despair and discovered the true meaning of life. All while the deaths around us were collateral and the protagonist's closest friends were brought back after dying. Again. For Thancred to then proclaim they got away with not even a scratch to show for it all. What kind of apocalyptic story is this? Either make the cast likeable enough to justify keeping them around (this did not happen) or please for the love of God get rid of them.

At any rate, Maehiro's gone off to take charge of FFXVI and while his job in it is probably done and over with, if you were to ask me to take charge of FFXIV's story and lore after Endwalker wrecked it all I'd probably decline outright. Such is his right as well. Confirming no life exists on other planets anymore, destroying entire antagonist factions offscreen unceremoniously, and making the few gods that remain total jokes doesn't lend itself to the sorts of stories I imagine him wanting to tell. FFXIV's setting could be taken seriously back in the ARR-Heavensward days. This is no longer the case.

FFXVI on the other hand appears to be...everything I wish this game would have. More orders of knights. Consequences for overusing or abusing magic - while Y'shtola's aether vision eating her life force away was retconned here. At least in Valisthea she would have been turned to stone by now, and preferably shattered soon afterwards. More Ysayle types. The sort of classic high fantasy elements that are either completely absent from this game or present in such minute or uninspired ways as to be entirely forgettable.

The now publicly available ratings for the game also went into specific detail as to the sort of brutal events we can expect to see, and I'm all for that as well. No more kiddie gloves, finally we're going to see some full on medieval grit. What a pity that the same cannot be said for FFXIV. Instead of animations that would serve the game's fantasy setting, we get steamed buns. Utterly ridiculous.
