My post may be downer territory. I don't know. I didn't expect a whole lot from this patch, but it still managed to fall short.
MSQ
The second they brought up needing a new traversal method, I realized it was going to be another, "Ride in on something big for the first few pulls" kind of dungeon. Which I don't have a problem with, it just made me also think, "Man, this is going to be a super chill dungeon." And it pretty much was. I wanted to go with friends, but nobody was waiting around / catching up, so just wound up going into it with Trusts. I'm still curious if the second boss has different dialogue if you kill her faster. I suppose I will find out sooner or later.
Cagnazzo as a dungeon boss made sense. Him and Scarmiglione are the weakest of the fiends in the SNES version, and both pretty much neutered by the mages in your party in like one or two spells. He was so unthreatening though, with a completely different personality, that the idea of the twins taking an injury/death didn't even come to mind until I read some of the posts here.
I felt like the combination of Rubicante and Mt. Ordeals was a bit ham fisted. Mt. Ordeals has nothing to do with the Four Fiends save for being where you fight and kill Scarmigilione in IV just before Cecil redeems his father's light and becomes a PLD. It did make for cool scenery though, and I'm glad they used the big ole Giantsgall Pride Rock.
My brain did perk up for Golbez being on the moon, and also being able to further restraint Azdaja when she gets unruly without even having to swish his hand really (like he closed his fist right). I actually kind of want Golbez to succeed and die, if only to bring succor to the 13th by essentially Rejoining it to the Source. Maybe even usher in the next phase of FFXIV by crashing the 13th's red moon into the Source. The 7th Calamity 2: Frenetic Boogaloo.
As far as the protagonist cast, ehh. Every performance was lacking in my opinion. I liked Zero's roleplay sequence, and her subsequent memory, as well as the nod to her liking spicy food. Jullus was sort of hamfisted in a good way. But every Scion and the WoL facial expressions on display made me put eye covering on until I did the 24 man stuff. I'm not really enjoying how they're handling Zero. Maybe I just don't like her type of character, but it feels like a switch flipped even before she nearly died. Idk. Her growth doesn't feel natural.
I have an inescapable feeling that this shortened, expect nothing because we're starting fresh 6.3 was just sort of an excuse to roll the same length trial story we usually get as the MSQ. I.E. Less content all around. I hope it doesn't become a new precedent. Ooof.
24-man / The Twelve
Ehh, I feel like the whole Oschon conclusion people are jumping to is the obvious red herring still. So I was wrong that Deryk = Althyk, but that was almost baseless supposition anyway. But now that they've mentioned this 13th Horse With No Name, and Krile's like, "Booyakashaw, it's the Watcher!" I feel like that's a red herring, too. I think the Horse With No Name is Deryk. Alternatively, he's literally just what he says he is, a traveler, and nothing more. Sometimes a spade's just a spade.
I enjoyed most of the fights. They were a lot easier to read than the prior 24 man, which probably still gives me trouble as I only did it a few times. Had a few deaths during Althyk... once to not seeing the clock time tether to one of the knockbacks, but the other times to the water push back mech. But my party had me on RDM and a SMN, so we kept everyone up and learned it all well enough to not wipe.
Nophica's fight was very relaxing.
Halone's fight was very lulzy for her supposedly being a war goddess.
Menphina's gave my eyes some strain, and I did die a few times. But my biggest grievance is that her design is borderline loli, so I don't like it much.
My patron deity is Althyk, and it was kind of funny that he's in the 24 man more or less with all the ladies. Feels like it really undercuts the powers of space/time manipulation, but oh well.
I chuckled pretty hard at Snoegeim reacting pretty much how I reacted to seeing Nophica.
Tataru Side Content
It was funny. I love spending time with the FFXI references that the auspices are. Kinda wish the reward for it was the Tenzen armor for glam, as I don't much care for what we got, but hey, it was nice. Really laughed when Suzaku(Thirsty Bird) let her thirstiness get the better of her. She was all like, "Hey I don't remember getting pregnant by Tenzen, but I am down to hear that fan fiction!"
