    When dyed gear STAYS dyed?

Have had a bit of an issue, dyed a piece of gear then put it in to my glam dresser where it reverted (how rude). I dyed it on a gatherer toon, but when I tried to use it on another job, boom, it reverted. I dyed it ON the job I want and it seems to stay that way.

But I am leery of trying to edit any part of the plate because I think it might revert again. So HOW do I dye something already IN my dresser so that it STAYS that way no matter what? I'm also leery of trying this piece of gear on other plates because I do not want to lose my dye job (we're talking the pure white you buy with gold chocobo feathers). I've already used up 3 of the 5 cans of dye I got...

You need to save the dye in a glamour plate and use that plate for the job you want the color on. Otherwise anytime you glamour that piece, it's going to reset the dye to whatever it was in the chest.

What Darkstride said. You if you save the dye to the item in the glamour dresser, that item will be that color by default when added to a plate. But if you dye the item on the plate, that item will always be that color until removed from said plate. I often save items with expensive dyes on them in the dresser and then save the cheaper dyes on said items in individual plates.

Dye the item from the first Dresser window, not from the Plate window. That will change the default color for the item. Dying an item on a plate only dyes it for that plate.

First up, if you need to experiment a bit and get a better understanding of how the dyes interact with the glamour dresser, get some cheap 40-gil dyes from the market hall NPC.

Assuming the game is functioning correctly, you should not lose dye on a gear piece when placing it in the dresser.

There are a couple of scenarios I could think of:
    • The gear was glamoured, and you assumed the dye would stay even if the glamour was removed. (It doesn't.)
    • You put the gear piece in the armoire rather than the dresser. (The armoire doesn't remember dyes.)

If you dye a piece that is glamoured, the dye is applied to the glamour rather than the piece itself.

When you put an unglamoured item in the dresser, it will go in as-is, with the dye still applied to it. But if the piece is glamoured, the glamour is stripped off it when you put it in the dresser – so if it was dyed, that dye is lost as well.

Another thing to know is that when you add an item to a plate, you are making a copy of the item in the dresser, and they are not connected after that. Dyeing one does not affect the other, and you can even remove the base item from the dresser without affecting the copy on the plate.

Further, applying the plate to your gear is creating a copy of the plate. You are not wearing the plate, and dyeing the worn outfit does not transmit the dye back to the plate.

This is confusingly phrased but seems misleading. If you want gear to be a specific colour and then use that colour on multiple plates, you do that by dyeing the base item in the glamour dresser.

If you dye it on the plate, the effect is limited to that plate.

This is why it's much better to put expensive dye on the base item and not the plate.

If you want to use expensive dye on an item that you've added to a plate already, you can dye the base item and then re-add the item to the plate with its new colour.

That is correct, except that I don't think it's what Darkstride said.

In the glamour dresser window before you enter into the "customize glamour plate data" portion of the interface (where your character gear sheet is pulled up along with a preview window of your character), you can browse through all the gear in your glam dresser and after selecting a category of gear and you're able to highlight the items within that category; you can right click/press square on controller over any item you want and a sub menu with a few commands will appear: Apply as glamour, Restore item from Dresser (reverts it back into an item in your inventory) and Dye. If you select and Dye the piece of gear in question in that window via that sub menu, it will default to that dye whenever applied to a glamour plate from then on (as if you dyed the item in inventory or Armory chest and applied as a glam manually via a prism) and the Dye SHOULD persist even when you revert it back into a item in your actual inventory.

The only items that are not afforded the persistent Dye is any gear located in the Armoire due to how that was coded (it reverts the data flag for it's current dye to the default colors when going from your inventory to the Armoire storage). ONLY Armoire items need to be dyed on a per glamour plate basis, all other items in your Glam Dresser should be able to be dyed in a persistent manner using the method described above. The glamour dresser initially reverted your dyes when going from Dresser > back to inventory but that was changed in the Glamour Dresser's first update patch I believe.

Hmmm, not sure it went into the regular dresser or the armoire (my bet is I have no choice where it goes, right?). BUT the item was NOT glamored and WAS dyed and lost it hitting the storage. No, I never took the item out of the dresser. Better check where it is next time I log. The last dye I applied was to it from my character page after I implemented the plate it was part of. Somehow I'd guess one way or the other, I'd get the short stick.

But if I dyed it right to the plate, it would stay there even if I changed some gear in that plate, right?

The armoire only accepts a limited amount of gear (level 50 relics and seasonal gear, mostly) and does not remember dyes. The dresser can store anything *including* armoire-eligible gear, which allows you to store it with a dye applied, but with the downside of taking up a storage slot in the dresser.

Dyeing from your character menu after applying the plate is definitely going to lose the dye in the long run. The important thing to understand is that you do not equip the plate itself, you copy it onto your gear. When you press the button to apply it to your gear, the system edits the information on your gear that says "display as gear piece X, colour Y" and that is the end of the plate's involvement in the process. If you then apply colour Z to the gear piece, that is not transmitted back to the plate.

Dyeing the item on the plate will make it permanent as long as that specific item remain on that specific plate. You can change other things on the plate without affecting it. But that plate will be only place where the dye is linked to the item.

The better place to dye the item is in the main list of the glamour dresser when you first open it up, before you go into the plate editing menu. Items here will keep their colour permanently and can be added to as many plates as you like. Once you dye it there, you can edit your plate and update it with the newly dyed version of the item.

I should've realized it would go into the armoire as it was seasonal gear. Sounds like the best move is to transfer it to the dresser, then dye it in there. THEN worry about plates.

Thanks for the advice, this worked exactly like how I wanted... I put the one piece I wanted to dye into the dresser, dyed it and applied it to the plate, the other 3 pieces in the armoire.
