    Ukrainian letters encoding

Have you ever tried to write in another language and getting weird symbols instead of letters? I have experienced that,

I mentioned that game cannot recongize ukrainian-specific letters when they are typed in chat, such as [Її, Єє, Іі] (however, when these letters are typed from latin alphabet (except Єє), everything is alright), but when [Її, Єє, Іі] is typed from ukrainian keyboard, game shows these letters as "=" [equal symbol], which makes ukrainian players suffer little bit.

I wonder if someone from dev team has ever wondered about such problems as chat encoding.

I don't think it's an encoding problem. It's a common issue that happens when the font being used doesn't actually contain those characters. The font may be Unicode, but often fonts targeted for certain markets will skip the characters for other languages.

True Unicode font that contains every single character for every single language in the world is huge, so nobody really uses them.

That said, alphabet-based languages are easy to deal with, and I don't see harm in asking the devs to put in Ukrainian characters. Something like Chinese is a completely different matter, as there are easily thousands of characters needed just to sustain a regular conversation, and it would be prohibitively costly for Squre Enix.

    Thanks for the reply!
Could be, im not the pro in such thing. Sadly a $2,500 font (AXISfont, guess SQEX bought lisence for whole family and for commercial purposes) dont have complete support for cyrillic alphabet.

Talking about Chinise, dont FFXIV have Chinise-specific version of the game? I think it contains Chinise language client and its vocabulary as much as alphabet.

I would like to make devs know about that minor problem, but sadly have no way to make a suggestion or better to say, asknowledge dev team.

Yeah I just used Chinese as an example because it's more readily understood that if you're not selling your game in China, you don't really want to bother implementing or licensing a Chinese font. (Also there are other technical considerations such as console limitations, font loading and caching speed etc. that could all contribute to the decision of not including extra characters.)

FFXIV does have a Chinese version, which would obviously have all the needed Chinese characters, but those aren't in the international version. And there is also the difference between Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, which occupy different sections of the Unicode code points. Traditional Chinese is probably not in any FFXIV font because the main user market (Taiwan) simply isn't serviced by Square Enix.

A lot of languages probably experience the exact same problem as you do. And while I do wish for a more comprehensive implementation of the Unicode code points, I doubt it's practical or even feasible to do.
