Game crashes after character select

I have been playing this game with the same PC and specs for a year. One day I teleported to Limsa Lominsa. I got a pop-up warning message and the game crashed.

I tried to relog and when I selected the character upon login I got the same warning message and the game crashed again. I am now unable to login and play with this character.

I have tried logging in other characters on the same account on different worlds (same machine). These log in fine and I do not seem to have any issues with those.

It appears to be character specific to the character I have on Brynhildr.

I tried to re-install the game but the same issue happens.
Nothing has changed hardware wise or update wise as far as I am aware, I was playing and it randomly stopped working once I teleported to Limsa Lominsa and has not worked since.

I tried to delete the FFXIV_CHR* folders in \Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn to see if anything was cached.

This did seem to make a difference, I am now able to login, although the warning message still appears and if I click 'ok' the game closes. Interestingly you can see my character screen, I can move him around, I see the chat box updating and I can even type and chat in there. Although I cannot see my map and I cannot see other players.

Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this? My suspicion is something funny must be cached with this character since it works fine for my other characters? (its not like my machine cannot run the game?)



The system information is below (game is installed on E drive as C drive has not enough space)
I have tried turning off Directx 11 but I get same issue and Directx 11 works fine on my other characters

If I delete the entire \Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn folder the game crashes again when I login... (but it works fine on my other characters)

Try:
Character selection screen -> right click your character's name (the one on the right, not at the bottom) -> Visit another world server
Otherwise, move another character to Limsa to see if it's some sort of file corruption problem but then you already reinstalled so probably not.

I think I may have resolved it.... I went on the cogwheel button in the top right, I clicked restore game data. It had to download the patches again but now I seem able to login fine
